Hey I'm 61 and ride anything I get my hands on, and have ridden just about everything on 2 wheels from Aprillia to Zundapp. My knees and back are still good so no problem:)

I just test drove 4 bikes today
    1. 2005 Honda VTX1800C3 ........8,800 miles ...awesome paint job & awesome power....a lot of chrome.....no saddlebags nor windshield......asking price $ 5k.....meticulous maintained....not much to maintain with only 8.8k miles on it......

    2. 2001 Yamaha Roadstar Midnight Star ....1600cc ....mileage 11k...spoke wheels ( not my preference but can be overlooked.... .......a lot of extras....3 Memphis Shade windshield.......different sizes........custom pipes, dyno tuned, bags, original exhaust...etc....asking price 4k......

    3. 2005 Yamaha Roadstar Midnight Star ...way overpriced at 6k but only had 4k miles on it......had not been started in months ......1700cc......carbs need cleaned....owner said I would have to trailer it home.....asking 6k and I can't even drive it home........go pound sand dude......

    4. 2005 Yamaha Roadstar Midnight Star......30k miles........asking price 4.2k......was not impressed at all......drove nice thou........

All 4 bikes haul ass thou........

    Need to make a decision.........1 & 2 are very enticing......leaning towards 1 but 2 has a lot of extras......

Told you . You like the 1800 Honda
Now do a bit of research on maintenance requirements of the bikes. That will be a big factor over time. And the Honda is fuel injected.

A guy over at the Rebel forum is 81 and still riding. Mebbe in the 8th decade, you'll have to ride something lighter...

Not sold on the fishtail exhaust, but I feel like I could trust the PO on maintenance. Something about that generation of dudes, and an engineer to boot, am I too trusting?

    Matt,

I am not a big fan of fishtail nor the retro look either......I think it looks rather stupid.......he had it dyno'ed in with it on.....a friend of his has a shop......

Not much maint req'd with only 700 miles on it....

First thing I would do is cutoff fishtail, fry it, & then dyno it again......

    I ride a 2007 1300R that I purchased in February of 2015 to replace my '83 XJ750K.. that I've had for 30 years.
I've added a fairing, trunk, and saddlebags over the last 2 years, because I require the storage.
The VTXcafe.com and VTXOA.com ... have info on everything about these bikes. The Cafe is a bit more "informal".
The 1800C is a beast. Being a 2005, most of the bugs were worked out by then (grounds and FPR).
It is a heavy bike. I ride alot 2-up, so I settled on a 1300 instead. $5k is a bit much... but maybe not for your area. Typical 1800's without a windshield, or considerable extras are more like $4K.
I personally have seen and spoke with 1800 owners that have well over 100K miles on their bikes with just regular maintenance. I really don't think you can go wrong with one. if you are comfortable with the condition and price... they are great bikes.

Thank you......I need to lower the price if I want to offload it.......even Kelly Blue - High is only about 1,200 for these bikes.....

I would never let it go for that.......definitely worth 2,000 to 2,500.

By the time one buys one for 500 -1000 off craigslist......they are going to put another 1,000 into fixing it up......
