I'm wanting to put a sportster peanut style tank on my XJ. what kind of modifications are needed to do this? sportsters only have one fuel line and my XJ has two fuel lines. will an XJ petcock fit a sportster tank with no modification?

    any help is appreciated

I don't know about Harley peanut tanks, but the aftermarket tank I got off Ebay has a threaded hole for the petcock to screw into. I would think Harleys would be the same, but can't say for sure. The Xjs are a bolt on type. The fuel lines shouldn't be a problem. The hardest thing will be mounting the tank. The peanuts have a narrow tunel for a 1.5" backbone. The XJs have this wierd little triple backbone thing. Don't know how intense you're planning on getting with modifying, but the 2 little outside 1" tubes will definitely be in the way.

I just rec'd a sportster tank I won on ebay. Looks like the mounting won't be too troublesome. I am going out of town for the weekend but I will begin that project when I return. I'll report back when I get it done.

The XJ petcock won't fit. The bung is on the right hand side also. I plan on relocating to the left side and and just running a single line, gravity-fed petcock.
