Tobacco pipes need cleaned from time to time. Do the pipes on our XJ need this? So I'm asking if anyone has done this ? Why? And what did you find?

If you're talking about cleaning the insides of the exhaust system I would think running seafoam through the system would do that as it is good for cleaning the carbon off of the valves and cylinder head.

So im guessing that no one has pushed a flexible brush up and down through the pipes just to see what comes out ?

Apart from a light dusting of soot, there should be nothing there. It's only two-strokes that need it and the best way is to burn it out with oxygen.

Interesting, i have a old set of pipes and i dropped one, i picked it up by one end and black dust and small chunks of something fell out. I thought about it i wonder if the inner tube rusted. The chrome on the out side only had small dots of rust very little discoloration The chunks were flat and flaky. I might buy a endoscope to take a look.

With the age of our bikes I don't know if I would try to clean them. By putting something up there to clean it out, you could do more damage than good.

I clear the pipes by twisting my right wrist.
