they are like rubber pucks from ace hardware. they have various sizes, but im small so maybe thats why it works. im like 5and a half feet, bill fifty in weight so i would think if you are bigger than that then maybe it isnt a viable option. i will get pics up on numerous subjects when i get time to host them somewhere. they are stuck on my phone, laptop and desktop lol

i have been finding that to be the case as well. i am quite concerned about it too, so i have been taking my time and for the time being, until i can ensure the brightness in daylight, i have some slightly bigger, but much more brighter ones on the bike. still plan on putting my smaller ones back in. just need a dual intensity module of some sort to increase intensity of brake light, as they are only 2 wire leds. mine actually have a black rubber bezel on them, which is slick as it molds to the hole. i have also modified a socket so i can use regular bulbs in a small space. also have a dif socket for led that i made, besides the ones i have on now and the ones discussed above...so i have 4 options for rear lighting at the moment, not sure which one i will end up with due to various concerns

    Red in rear:

Trim ring will need to be shaved down a lil:

Was able to devote some time to the bike today. Just some lil, stuff, but stuff I have been wanting to take care of.

This ugly bracket (from the stock orange reflectors) , has been buggin me for a while.

Cut it off, then grinded off all the weld.

    Sanded and sprayed with semi-gloss:

    Started my clutch project tonight.

New clutch friction plates, bolts, washers, springs, and clutch cable. Some parts from the almighty Chacal, and a few from other sources.

Disconnected battery and took it out, gonna be pickin up a new one. Drained oil and removed filter.
Ten clutch cover bolts, this one is in a tricky spot.

Had to loosen this and rotate peg out of the way. No biggie.

Please excuse all the dust and dirt and grime on everything, She is in a bad need of cleaning..

Cover needed a slight tap from a rubber mallet and popped right off.

First time I have had a motorcycle clutch opened up, kinda cool to see.

Loosened them all in a criss-cross pattern and removed.

    First old friction plate removed.

    First plain plate removed.

At this point my hands were too oily to be handling my phone, so no more pics till tomorrow lol. I removed everything and inspected the basket and plain plates, everything looks good. No burs or scratches or anything. As advised in a thread on here somewhere I cleaned everything up with scotchbrite, then installed all the new parts. Right now the five new bolts and springs are in place, but only finger tight. I could not find the torque specs for em in my Haynes manual. Came inside to clean up and Chacal had the info, 7.2 ft/lbs. Same goes for the ten clutch cover bolts.

    So yeah, until tomorrow!

Like the lights in the frame rail.
Hope that oil is for wet clutch motorcycles and not plain car oil or you just ruined a new set of clutches.
Did you check the springs to see if they are still in spec?

Uh.. so I need new clutch plates again?? The oil is not bike specific.

    And the springs are new.

Maybe not. Car oil has friction modifiers that will make the clutch and starter clutch slip. Take them out of that oil and clean them as best as you can without damage to the material. Soak them in motorcycle wet clutch oil and try them out. Hopefully they will be alright. If not, you'll need to replace them.

Valvoline 20-50 motorcycle oil (for wet clutches) can be had at most car part stores.
Do you have a manual? If not get one.
Good move on the new springs.

Ok, I'll pick some up and get to cleaning. I have a Haynes manual and use it often, super helpful. When shopping for oil I didn't look at anything past the weight. I guess I just figured oil is oil, ya know? lol

Update, been busy so haven't been able to get into the garage much. Cut, grinded, and sanded a few random brackets off, cleaning things up a bit.

Changed my seat mounting idea.. again.. Gonna get that finished up real soon.

Went through this thread this morning and came across the picture of the 81 Honda. Had the same model. Bought it new in 81 and sold it in 85 to buy a house. Had mine set up with a Plexifairing, luggage rack w/adjustable backrest, crash bars and highway pegs. Seeing that picture brought back some fond memories.

Those turn signals ARE super slick. I was hoping for a similar solution. I looked all over amazon for some straight/in-line turn signals, but couldn't find any. Do you remember the specific manufacturer of the signals? Thanks

Thanks for the awesome thread. I picked up
a stock 81 maxim FULL of rust and am working on making it a cafe bike. I'll be checking out your thread for ideas though. Great job.
