A few of my bikes have bad chrome on the header pipes. I have seen in some of the bike pictures here some of you guys have your front pipes done in black. Also I have seen a few done in Silver Jet Hot.
What process have you had luck with and who have you sent your pipes to. Is one better than the other.

    Thanks

JetHot is basically high-temp powder coating. It's also not the only brand out there, my powder coating guy uses a different brand, I forget what it's called but it's the same stuff. Not only does it come in silver, you can also get matte black and some colors.

You don't have to send your stuff across the country; you should be able to find a powder coating shop in your area that does it. It's not something every home-based garage powder coater can do; but a "real" powder coating shop will.

"Conventional" powder coating isn't high-temp enough for exhaust systems.

bigfitz is right, regular powder coating cannot sustain the high temps created by the headers. Most BBQ paint wont either. There is also a product called VHT. A lot of parts stores (cars) carry it. It claims to have a 2000 degree hold, without wrap. Also says it doesnt blister or chalk. I have heard a couple guys who race say they like it a lot. Trick is curing it the way the can says to. The can gives you a way to cure by installing the pipes and running your bike. Runs about ten bucks. Being in St. Paul, you could probably find a place to ceramic coat for under a hundred bucks.

    I got a price from Jet-Hot
$385 for my complete system (headers, collector side covers and mufflers)

Rechroming would actually be cheaper I think if you could find a place to take rusty parts (apparently is absolutely screws up the tanks of liquid)...I'm no expert tho.

plenty of places do HIGH temp powder now. At least by me they do. Look around. Should be not one dollar more than $150 to blast and coat an exhaust system.

I just finished black exhaust wrap and Hi-temp silicone coating on my header pipes, looks really good but was a bitch to wrap.
