Ouch is an understatement Fault! Arbs, you need to do some shopping. Have you tried a broker? I don't like them much either but they did get me a reasonable quote for my first year of bike insurance (yes, it was with Dairyland) and was plunking down under $70 a month (1987-88). 2K a year is just unreal! You super-rich or have some other real property liability? Fault, you gotta do something! Refer the poor (literally) fellow to someone that can rescue him from being gouged!

Ok, so now I notice where Espanola(and Jerry) are. He is one of our northern, hockey lovin, snot freezing, HIGH INSURANCE(BIKES) brothers.

I dont know much of the North of the border laws and such. But from the feedback in THIS forum, people North pay TONS for their insurance. Your best bet would be to do some shopping for COMPARABLE COVERAGE

I'm with progressive currently (first year having a motorcycle too). I'm 22 and for a 1994 seca2 I pay about $400 for full coverage (max liability, medical, etc). My Uncle told me if I was going to ride, I should start with the maximum amount of insurance and work my way down as I get more experienced.

I got quoted at Geico for the same bike at $1250 or so for a full year. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me!

I'm currently looking at getting a newer R6 in the near future (or other similar sport bike), and for minimum coverage, I'll be looking at $300 per month. But I'm still trying to decide if it'll be worth it to take that risk of having almost no insurance on a sportier bike...probably not.

just to make things interesting here in FL its actually legal to ride a MC with no insurance at all so when somebody has such a piss poor driving record that their car insurance is so high they cant afford it they just get a bike and ride without any. yikes....

That is a frightening concept Chili!
We enacted a maditory insurance registration with the DMV last year and if you let your coverage expire or you cancel it, they cancel your tags! It is supposed to ensure more drivers are covered. Of course the yahoos that didn't insure in the first place aren't going to care too much one way or the other, they will just lift some poor bugger's tags and drive with illegal tags.

I've got mine through progressive. I'd pay something like $117/year for basic liability, and about 200 for liability+comprehensive collision and replacement on my bik(Listed my bike at $3,000.00). It will drop I think 5% next year however, as I have finished a MANYS course. Also keep in mind that I'd never had insurance on any vehicle before, am a male under 25, and unmarried.

I use Progressive. $209 a year for 2 bikes, full coverage. XJ750 and XR250. I jacked up my under- and un-insured coverage (a good thing to do) I also lowered my deductible to $250. I also insure my pick up trucks with them. I used DairyLand for my first bike and they were by far the cheapest Liability Only rate I could find. My only issue with Progressive is they automatically renew my auto insurance and just take the money out of my account, but they won't do that with the bikes. I have spaced it only to realize I had been riding for a month without insurance.
Progressive will also let me cancel my coverage when the bikes are winterized or being modified, for no charge and reinstate the coverage when I call them.

Im paying $253 a year for liability only.

Of course, single male under 25 with a 50mph over the limit ticket on his record isn't going to look good.

Hopefully when I renew it will be less because my points will have dropped off my record and I'm getting married in July.

    Sim,

Make sure to add your location in your personal info.
Have no clue which state you are in...

Congrats BTW, can I come to the bachelor party? Or at least the reception?

That reminds me; I've got to install that radar detector on my bike...
