Haven't forgotten about this, been busy making a internet operated garage door opener for a good friend... Got the replacement servo and was able to test two more different methods of RPM sensing. The photo interrupter still seems to be king. The last try will be to re-visit the inductive type pick-up on the HT coil wire...

Building a mock up soon. Will post some pictures when done.

I also want to start making the needles, which requires a lot of time... which I don't have.

Just seen this now since someone drug it up, glad they did, very cool idea. Cool idea, something I thought about but never took on. My thoughts when I read the very first post to meet all your criteria would be Volvo S80 gauges with new carbon fiber faces and RGB LEDs wired in behind in a custom enclosure. I took a picture of the gauges in my S80, displays in the center of both the tach and speedo for your fuel, time, etc. Whatever you want. The floating needles are pretty cool. Since you want carbon fiber faces, why not cut out the numbers so that the back light shows through them? Also, you would want a CNC mill for carbon fiber. As I recall water jets are better for metal, but they may work on carbon fiber. Then just wire in High Power RGB Star LEDs with controller, and make a custom enclosure, done. The hard part seems to be the sender modules for the speedo and tach.

This reminds me of something I wanted to try with an FZ750 I had. But I will start a new topic for that.

EDIT: I completely forgot about the picture of the gauges...should be there now.
