Question about XS1100 and XJ1100 and Shifting

    Is it true tha both SX and XJ1100 have a common problem with slipping out of first gear when put under load?

    I'm looking at a 1982 XJ1100 Maxim and it is SWEET!

    Very close to show room condition, runs excellent except for the 1st gear shift thing.

    Is this common?
    Is it fixable?
    If fixable, at what cost, generally speaking?

    it appears that XS11 series had more trouble with 2nd gear, while the XJ1100 - with 1st. The tranny in both is kinda "clunky" (as in, it clunks pretty loud going into gear).

    the problem stems from gear dogs and/or forks wearing out prematurely... It's definitely fixable, not super expensive, but some disassembly is required.

    Very nice bike, but not for $1700 and needs tranny work.
    I'm not up to that job, Yet!
