Well, I'm out of commission for a bit...so plan without me. My forks seals are leaking and I am in the process of ordering the parts. Since properly functioning seals are a safety issue I can't ride until they are fixed.

    Hey guys,

As promised I acquired the 2009 dates for Wake Tech's Experienced Rider Course given by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. They are:

    March 14
    May 2
    Sept 19
    Nov 14

Post a PM to me with your email address and I'll forward the electronic forms to you. Remember, to hold a class they require at least 6 riders. Cost this year is $75.00 for a one day 8 hour course. Just a word of advice, the class is held rain or shine!!

I can't make the 3/14 course but right now the others are open. Let me know what you are interested in.

Got my parts...but timing is everything...Feb/March of every year in my job is like April is for accountants. Today is my first day off in 10 days so I can't bear getting started...just too pooped and unmotivated. Probably my first opportunity will be the weekends of 3/6 or 3/13.

What a time to have my bike all apart. I ended up taking my forks to a pro to get my seals and gaskets replaced. lack of tools made me do it. Oh well. Should have my forks back by tomorrow, But, I have no front brakes. I have a new R6 MC unit coming in sometime next week and some SS braided hoses as well. Once that's done, i hope for a weekend like this one next week.

xulf13 I wish you had let us know we would be glad to help.

What a great day - we did Artie's fork seals in the morning - went to lunch at Scooters and off on a couple hour ride. Had a fantastic time.

Mark hope the ride was great - we would have come but the seals had to get done.

Artie pointed out a cancer ride coming in April. I'll post details when I dig up the paper on it.

    Bill,

Thanks again for all your help. The seals make for clean as a whistle forks. Couldn't have done it without you...we'll certainly not as fast or with as much confidence. The forks also don't feel so "mushy" as they did.

Next I will be ordering the carb parts from chacal to replace the frozen idle mixture screws.

Mark, 215 bikes....that is a wow! Sounds like they raised a chunk of change.

xulf....once you know how to replace the seals you wonder what all the fuss is about. Maybe it's a little more complicated on some bikes but the my Maxim-X turned out to be straightforward. The only tool that you might not have that's essential is the damper rod holding tool. And there's some clever alternatives to it that have been described on this forum.

Thanks so much guys. I will be sure to ask next time. being that I'm pretty new, I did not want to be a bother. The damper rod in my XJ750RJ is different than that of the xj650 or maxim. It turns out you don't even need a tool to hold it from the other side, as it is round. it doesn't have a place to grab. So you have to use a hex on the bottom but use an air impact wrench and it pops right out. Anyhow, that wasn't the hard part. The hard part was getting the hex bolt out that was stripped. And I did not have the tool to drive the bush into the lower fork, I think if I had the right tools I would have been able to do it myself. I went to Hank, of WidowMakers, in Roxboro. A bit out of the way but that's the only person I knew of. He's a pretty nice guy. Anyhow, I did not get my forks this weekend, because he had to get a deep extractor for that stripped hex bolt, I should get a call today. I'll let you guys know when the bike is ready for cruizing again. :)

Can't bother us. We enjoy working on the bikes - It's therapy, plus the more you do the more you learn.

Mark (MLEW) is a master craftsman - I think he can build anything, so any help you need should be available.

Last summer we all had a meet and greet lunch. Need to set up another one and see if we can most of the locals connected. Helps to have assistance in repairs and folks to ride with.

Thanks Bill, that sounds great. I'm also involved in the mazdatruckin scene. And it sure is nice to get together and helping others. I had a friend help me with powder coating some parts for my truck this past weekend while everyone with a running bike were out enjoying the weather :) Well, he did most of the work. I just watched and learned.

I sure hope to get together this spring. Seems like the ride for the cure on 4/9 will be a good time to meet some of ya'll.

Hey mlew. You had mentioned once about helping out with my first carb rebuild.

I was wondering if that offer is still available and what parts I should order to have on hand.

Offer is still good Raptor, minimum you'll need carb fload bowl gaskets. If you are having problems with fuel overflowing then gaskets and needles and seat. I generally don't replace the jets if the bike has been running good, but that is up to you. A complete carb kit will cost 20$(gaskets, needles seat ,idle screw ,jets) per carb. Bowl gaskets 20$ for all 4. Sometimes all the carbs just need a good cleaning and adjusting. On top of that a few cans of spray carb cleaner.

I would go to the class but I'm only a beginer. So I would need to go to the other class.
Yesterday was a beautiful day for riding. Got my bike road worthy this past weekend and went for a ride with a buddy of mine ( he has a 03 CBR600RR) We rode thru Granville county, creedmoor, Butner, Oxford. beautiful country views. What a blast. I can't wait to go riding with some of you guys from the forum. :)

    xulf13,

Bill and I were all over your general vicinity Sunday afternoon. We went through Creedmoor, Henderson, Kitrell, by Franklington, around and through Wake Forest and through Bunn. We did the biker wave to a ton of bikers...maybe we passed you.

Oh, and I would recommend the beginning rider course also. It was extremely helpful to me. I am pretty sure the BRC info was included with the ERC information. There are many more BRC class options to choose from. PM me with your email and I'll send you the forms.

    Hey guys,

I missed out on riding this past weekend. Went on a short ride with my daughter after changing the oil in my bike. Spent a good portion of Sunday sanding and polishing parts on my bike.

Mark, still waiting on those bowl gaskets.

Bill, the guys in my shop and myself are going to the TechShop to check it out tomorrow. I will let you know how it is.

xulf13, I to would suggest the BRC. I took it at Johnston CC (cheaper and the classes don't fill up as fast) and really enjoyed it.

Bummer, with all this rain. I have the itch to go riding. Raptor. yes I looked inbto the johnston classes but the savings don't add up after I drive the extra distance for 3 days in a row, when I can just go to Raleigh for an extra $30 and not have to wake up extar early and come home extra late. I'm all the way in Granville county. :)

All next week except Wednesday look like good riding days. I put a new Dunlop D404 on the rear today and got a ride up and down the street before the rain returned.

I went on a 3 1/2 hour trip with two friends today, covered, roxboro, Oxford. Whata great time. I oassed a dark blue xj sorta like mine (but nicer) on US1 today. I'm wondering if it was someone on this site? Well with the strong wind gusts and all, we managed to stay safe and enjoy the ride. Looks like two more nice riding days tomorrow and tuesday. :) Ride safe Ya'll.
