I pulled an old fart moment and reported some kids that I have seen racing in my neighborhood. The police did not seem to take it seriously at first so I kept pressing them to go talk to them. Because of the stickers and my interest in fast things, I recognize the little wankers from a previous incident where they almost ran over a girl walking her dog about a month ago. I was on foot then, but this time I jotted down tag numbers and pulled over and dialed the law. One had two outstanding tickets so he is off the street until daddy can pay the 1200.00 in outstanding fines. So I feel vindicated!

It has been a bad summer. Another teenager was killed with street racing recently in my locale in a cage. 4 Teens died in a car which hit a tree and killed all occupants, in a residential part of the city a month earlier. They were going so fast that the motor and front wheels of the civic were about 15 feet away from the vehicle. Last year in a neighboring town, a squid on a gixxer hit an embankment with his girlfriend on the back and had a devastating crash. These were not accidents, they were silly mistakes which ended in a loss of life and personal property.

Please use some sense and keep racing on the track where it belongs.

    Hey, Shooter:

    mor·tal (môrtl)
    adj.
    1. Liable or subject to death.
    2. Of or relating to humankind; human: the mortal limits of understanding.
    3. Of, relating to, or accompanying death: mortal throes.
    4. Causing death; fatal: a mortal wound. See Synonyms at fatal.
    5. Fighting or fought to the death; unrelenting: a mortal enemy; a mortal attack.
    6. Of great intensity or severity; dire: mortal terror.
    7. Conceivable: no mortal reason for us to go.
    8. Used as an intensive: a mortal fool.
    noun.

    A human.

    Shooter. You ARE mortal.

    So is everybody else.
Don't drive like a fool. I don't want you to kill somebody. But, after being in here a short time and bragging about driving drunk and being irresponsible behind the wheel ... somebody better tell you to "Shape Up".

Don't do something stupid that is going to end-up with a Judge sentencing you to spend the best part of your life in a Prison Cell.
    It only takes one "Mistake".

I do this. Haha. Stupid little neighbor kids are always in my lawn with their powerwheels and crap, chewin up what little grass is there.... Oh, and they steal our mail too. Chased em off with a Louisville slugger when i caught them doing that....

On topic though, I hate seeing people street race. Going out and riding hard and having fun is one thing, street racing is completely unacceptable. And this is coming from a kid that has had muscle cars and fast bikes since I was old enough to reach the pedals and shifter.

I've seen some horrible things happen to people, including my best friend getting himself killed in a single-car accident a bit over 2 years ago. 2005 BMW Z4 convertible, 115 mph, on a country "highway" (read: 2 lanes wide, twisty, completely blind at night), went to pass someone, oncoming car popped over the hill ahead, he swerved and lost control. Hit the tree at 113 according to the police. One of the safest cars on the road was a complete pretzel. Engine was nearly 20 yards away. All 9 air bags went off. He died on impact anyway.

Please please please people .... keep the racing on the tracks where it should be. At least that way if something goes wrong, there's paramedics nearby.

Oh, and drinking and driving is NEVER acceptable. The last night I got to ride my Seca, I was on my way home at about 11:30 pm from a friends house, which happens to be about a block away from a rather popular bar in town. "Tough guy" comes staggering out of the bar and rides off on his harley right in front of me. Puts it down going around the very next corner. I got to stay with him and wait on the medics. Gross, to put it mildly.

Which reminds me. WEAR YOUR HELMET KIDS.

yummy, ya a friend of mine, not very close, got a piece of junk car, like a corsica or something, a tiny american car form the early ninetys, well he wanted to see how fast it could go in a mile, got about 1/3 mile down the road, went off the road, over corrected, hit a tree and died, his brother almost died, docters say it was a miracle he survived

I'm a pretty firm believer that the ONLY good safety measure is good driving .... I had a tire blow on my race car in high school, I found the retaining wall at 118 and rolled 3 times. Woke up in the hospital, spent 4 days there. In a full 12-point NHRA caged car with 5-point harnesses, and I was wearing a fire-suit and helmet.

All the gear in the world won't save you if you're stupid while using it.

Things happen too fast when your speeding. A car door opens, A truck pull s out in front of you anything. The faster you go the less time you have to react. Be careful out there. Too many idiots don't see motor cycles and alot of people get hurt because of that. Ride with eyes out the back of your head if you have too. Just like last week we heard of BlueMaxim hitting a drive shaft laying on the road. You not only have to watch for cars you have to look at the road as well. Even a big pot hole can do you in at the right speed. (My thoughts and prayers are with Blue Maxim & Hope your doing ok)

If you want to race there is a time and place for it. I belong to NHRA and work for them in Brainard MN every year for the Nationals. I like to watch the pro stock bikes run. They keep it as safe as possible. So Keep it on the track for sure if you feel the need for speed.

Want to see just how well prepared you are to respond to an emergency situation?

Accelerate to 45 Mile per Hour.
    Execute a full-panic stop!

See if you are in control enough to stop without losing control.

Good exercise, Rick! Riding down an empty stretch of road, pick a mailbox and pretend it's a German Shepard. STAND IT ON ITS NOSE! Make the front tire howl without breaking loose. It's good to get the feel for how your bike will react before you need to do it for real.

I spent a few days doing that when I first started riding this bike. I think it's best to know your machines (car, bike, whatever) inside and out, so that no matter what situation comes up, you're prepared and can handle the appropriate reaction. Hard braking is a MUST on a ANY bike, and in my opinion, so is swerving and HARD acceleration, like in the situation where you see the cager roaring up behind you at that stop light isn't gonna stop before ramming you.

Speaking of mortality, I had a young man in my command who decided to drive drunk while home on leave. He was 19 at the time. Crossed the center line and took out the father of 2 little girls. He is now spending life in a prison in Alaska.
Drive with caution and NEVER under the influence of any alcohol, no matter how little. Wait it out or call a cab. Heck, if you are in my area, I'll come get you no matter the hour.
