Rearset Mount Plate

Continuing the slow-ass build I'm doing, I proto-ed some mounting plates for rearsets, using a laser cutter on some .25" mdf. They bolt right on, for the final product all those (3/8") circles would also be through cut (just surface etching saves time on the laser cut time). I have a guy who's gonna run the cut on a plasma cutter for me.

Both sides are identical.



I can provide the file to anybody who wants to cut a set themselves. There's also a little square piece that welds over a 5/8" square bar so you can bolt it to four of the holes, which in my case would support the (Yamaha branded highway) pegs I'm using. The bolts for that will run into tapped holes from the INSIDE, for a clean(ish) look (and because there's no clearance for a bolt head next to the bar. With 4 bolts holding a plate like that, I figure I can make the whole thing from .25" steel and it'll still be stiff enough. Not exactly light, but not TO bad.



Odd thing I noticed is that the bolt spacing for the two main bolts here seems to be exactly 4.5" (though coule maybe be 115mm). I've noticed other measurements that are suspisciously clean when made in Imperial units. I wonder if they designed the bike using Imperial for the frame dimensions, but metric hardware? Thtat's pretty much what I'm doing...

 

I'd suggest not using the hiway pegs for building rearsets as they are probably a little on the light side for that purpose, they are usually used just for resting your feet on.
For proper support and use of shifter and brakes I'd try and adapt something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/09-12-Kawasaki- ... fd&vxp=mtr to the plate you have already mounted. Not those exact ones but something off a stock bike.

great now I'm inspired to make my own set instead of ordering a $300 set. As you can see from the my build thread I'm not strange to fabrication even though I have no idea what I'm doing.
