Renewing Your XJ Ignition Switch

    Do you mean the housing, or the steering lock housing?

    Is the housing metal or plastic?

    Did you get the conductor plate in the correct position?

    Does it short with the key off as well as on?

    How much needs to come off to get access to the switch? A quick check w/ the flashlight makes me think cowling and bucket at least.

    I think it is a 10mm socket and a 12 inch extention thats all I needed to remove the ignition switch from the bike both Maxim550 and Seca 550
    you need to open the headlight to disconnect from harness
    unless the cowling keeps you from reaching up from underside of switch
    Clean and lube the ignition switch
