    Hello All,

I have a 1985 xj700n with Mac 4 into 1 exhaust put on by the PO. I still have the original 4 into 2 exhaust that I would like to restore and put back on.

The mufflers have some rust and pin holes. One of the mufflers has a broken weld. Two of the headers have some pretty deep scrapes. The collector has some surface rust but looks to be in good shape otherwise.

I would like to find some replacement header pipes which I can probably find used. I also need to find replacement mufflers so I am looking for some advice and pointers to where I can find aftermarket replacements; preferably ones that resemble the originals and will not require much modification to attach.

If you have any ideas, links, or comments I would appreciate your input.

    Thanks
    Paul

85-86 airheads and X's take the same pipes

Yes the inlets and outlets of the header pipes are the same (and start and end at the same place) and will fit. However the difference is the outside pipe diameter is larger on the X models by 2mm. I compared the crusty sets that I have laying around, and if you lay one on top of another they are slightly different in the bend because of that to clear the frame.

If he only needs to replace two, I would stick with my recommendation of finding a nice pair for the air-cooled model for the cylinders that need replacing, or spend more on a complete set for the water-cooled X so they match.

Similar to the Seca 900 headers and collector box that I found locally. It fits the exhaust port, and the exit point of the collector is in the same location as on my X, but it doesn't clear the frame. Thought I could use it, but the subtle differences from model to model prevents me from bolting it on.

Paul could use the ones for a water-cooled one, if that's all that's available. Just have to find a good matching set of 4.
