So I grinded off the Oil filter bolt and washer now what? the washer is now flush with the Case before I shave the mm off to get it down to the Casing , should I smack it with a rubber mallet? try to extract it from the back ? I dont want to scrap my case. Ill post a pic in my gallery .

I doubt smacking it with a mallet will do much at this point. When I had to remove the bolt from my 550, I pre-drilled a small hole right in the center of the bolt and then used a large-diameter bit to basically mill off the whole top of the bolt in one shot.
I tried grinding it off before that - and guess what? I scraped the oil filter housing. :-?

You haven't quite ground enough off yet.

There is a chamfer on the hole in the housing to help the o-ring on the bolt get started.

When you've ground deep enough the chamfer will be visible.

Looks like you're getting close though. Go slow.

I guess at this point I should Continue on with the dremel tool and grind the interior So to not remove the Casing metal..as well Should I drain the oil before I get the Oil pan bolt off.... will it spew out once The blasted bolt is off ....

And the bike got dropped over while I tried backing it up on its center stand, A little gas leaked out and now she wont start... is it from the Carb bowls and I just need to prime them again?

Jonny.....yes, I would drain the oil before you finish grinding, but even if you don't, there's not that much oil inside the filter cover....enough to be messy, but not enough to be a firehose.

If you do end up ruining the filter cover, I have good used ones available, just drop me a note.

The face of mine actually got a slot in it where some PO apparently drilled a bolt off. The seal is down inside on the bolt, so it's not an issue if the face is messed up a little.

I don't want to sound like an idiot, but why did you grind off the oil filter bolt?

Grinding-off the Filter Bolt was not a good move.

You could have just as easily put a small Pipe Wrench to it and taken it out like it was supposed to come out.

Now, you need a new bolt ... once you twist-off the Oil Filter Housing and then get the remains of the old bolt out of the lower sump.

Well In a previous post "stuck oil filter bolt" it is explained. And I stated the bolt is Completely screwed...ie stripped, twisted mess, tried everything .."extraction bit" Tried the stripped hex head wrench( the bolt head was nearly soft as lead) so it has come to this ..Grinding it off .

I could not have just as easily put a small pipe wrench on it seeing as I twisted the head right off already... Not as easy as you make it sound, man. I did not grind it off for the fun of it, come on . And what do you mean twist off the oil filter housing ..I wish it were so easy . This is a pain in the arse , but I know It is going to work . Believe me I wish It would have been an"easy" process .

MiCarl has been there and done that, so IM think Ive had no choice, as much as a Pain it has become . And to those of you who read this , GET SOME ANTI-SEIZE when you reinstall the new bolt And don't OVER TORQUE This Bolt . This operation sucks . The PO Had made this bolt himself by tacking on a new head .
I already have a new bolt from Chacal.

I haven't had to do it. Since mine has the larger head and the aforementioned slot on the face of the housing I assume someone previously had to do it.

The filter housing has a locating tab. You Cannot turn it until it's about 1/2 inch off the engine.

Ahh , I sit corrected . In any case I spent 30min at it today with a dremel tool Using the knife sharpening tool ,lifting off tiny layer by tiny layer, as soon as I got through the Washer like part of the bolt , POP! She came off Whew who. New bolt and fram filter installed . The Old stuff smelled fishy . So I just wanted to say VICTORY!!! Thanks for the tips guys.
Question, Their inside was a metal washer sitting over the filter grommet and spring on it ... but I do not see its purpose,as the spring fits just snug over the grommet , Is it important ?

Lots of us don't have it anymore (mine was gone when I got it) so apparently isn't critical. Still, Yamaha put it there - so put it back.

It WAS importsnt when the Yamaha Oil Filters were all fiber. It applied pressure to the Cardboard element and prevented it from collapse.

Now, the filters available have a metal framework and will not collapse against the force of the spring.

Like MiCarl says: If you got it ... use it. I see them with and without!

Those who don't have one can get them.
They are one of the least expensive parts you'll buy for the bike.
