Son pulled in driveway saying there is a whirring noise coming from speedometer. I could hear it as well. Then speedo quit working. Pulled cable out of the head, and pulled it out.....it doesn't look broken at the other end, however, when I seat it back in, and leave it unattached to the head, while going down driveway, it does not spin.....when pull the cable out, and stick the end in the speedo head and spin it, the needle does move. Guessing I am needing a cable??? But why was the noise in the head?

could be you the other end broke off in the wheel unit

undo the cable at the wheel and see if you can spin it (internal cable with a drill) make sure you spin in correct direction.
