spray paint help

    i have an 82 xj650 and i need to paint a new tank and rear fender i have bought to put on it ,but resources won't allow me to send it into a shop for a pro job so its going to be sprayed by me.If anyone has done this before and has a good brand of spray paint or company to use that bonds well and doesn't look to ghetto any advice is welcome.thank you in advance

    Dupli-color in the can works well, but it is recommended you use a 2 part clear coat to seal or spilled gas will ruin your work. There is a 2 part available in a can as well but I think it's a little pricey. There are little spray units available at Home Depot if you can score some auto paint for cheap, it can be used for clear too.

    Dupli-color. When done wet sand with 2000 grit sand paper. Then get a polisher and mirror glaze. 7 cans on mine all together front, rear and tank.
    Like glass now.

    Most spray can paint will not do so good once you spill gas on it. Of course there are two-part paints in spray cans that will work, but it's kinds pricey for what you get.
    I used implement paint on mine, that uses a hardener in it. That way you will get a better shine and a gas resistant coating all in one. A quart should be enough to do the entire bike in two-three coats and you won't need any protective clear coat over it either. It holds up very well also. I even painted a car with it and got alot of compliments on it. For about $12 for the paint and $8 for the hardener, you can't go wrong. If course you will need a spray gun to apply it is the only draw back, but gives alot better finish over all.

    I have two cans of the two-part clear in a can I'd be willing to sell. I got it about a year ago before I got my paint gun and now don't need them.
    I think I paid $17 a can.
    I did X2 with it two years ago and the tank still looks like the day I finished it (except for the dent in the side of the tank)...the clear won't stop BIG dents!

    First $20 will get them to your door.
