    I used PETG since it should hold up better in sunlight. PLA would probably last a long while, if you don't keep the bike outdoors (like me). Don't forget to use the metal insert from the original button! It pushes in into the cavity in the 3d printed version. Your order of assembly sounds right, but it's been a few years, I don't 100% remember.

    - Open the control housing
    - remove retaining screw for the button cage assembly (pay close attention to orientation, placement of wires, wire covering, etc.....). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING A FEW CELL PICS SO YOU HAVE A REFERENCE FOR REASSEMBLY
    - carefully open the back of the cage to remove spring and button

    - swap parts and install in reverse order
