    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

stock seat pan trimmed with a dremel. :) i have the stock foam and some vinyl to cover it but i'm not sure if i'm gonna take the time to do it just to replace with with a solo seat...

    we'll see.

i'll have to figure out a way to keep it from rocking back too as the stock design depends on the rear rails being there to limit it's motion.

    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

I don't think I still have my invoice from them anymore. I went to motion pro and told them that I needed the stock cable just at a different length. I used a piece of string to figure out my new length.

might as well post these as well... got my solo seat finally.

Does that come withall the adjustersand sthings for quick mount? Like the clutch cable with the adjuster on the motor side?

    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

ordered bolt on seat post mounts and shorter springs for the seat. once I have that properly mounted, I can focus on fitting my rear fender. picked up a riv-nut kit and a cut off wheel in preparation for fender mock up. (finally)

doing an oil change tomorrow and trying the Shell Rotella after all the reviews I've seen on here. certainly can't beat the price. :)

    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

i've gotta do some playing with the bike but i'm not sure the spring posts are going to work the way I'd hoped.

I may have to go with weld on tabs...

pulled the front fender for giggles and also picked up a new set of chrome turn downs to run on the bike again.

old pic of the bike with my last set of chrome turndowns...

    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

pretty sure I'm going to run the 2" springs on a set of homemade studs. (aka nuts and bolts mounted through the rails)

mockup pic... will buy nuts/bolts in the next day or two
    [IMG]

mounted my old rear signals on the bike and started to play with the front signals a bit. the housings I have for the front are a single wire style that grounds through the housing but the factory mount does not have a good ground. I believe i'll be modding them into a 2 wire. for now the front and rear signals will be a different style. (rears cost me over $70 while the fronts were around $20) eventually i'll pickup a matching set.

and a few pics from my ride this evening.

I am aware it will change how the bike rides. Most have noticed very little difference in ride. My bike isn't exactly a corner Carver anyways so I'm not too concerned. Can always put the stock wheel back on if I don't like it. :)

I love everything you've done/are doing to this bike (except the apes - not my style), so good luck with the rest.

Where did you get that rear fender?

And let me know how those forward controls work out, so far the cramped frame is the only thing on the Maxim I don't like!

tc bros is who I bought the controls from. they are for the xj650. you need to buy different hardware to mount them as the 650's have threaded holes in the frame where the 700 has through holes and you will need spacers to clear the outer header tubes. (i bought an extra set of nuts to use as spacers)
