i've gotta do some playing with the bike but i'm not sure the spring posts are going to work the way I'd hoped.

I may have to go with weld on tabs...

pulled the front fender for giggles and also picked up a new set of chrome turn downs to run on the bike again.

pretty sure I'm going to run the 2" springs on a set of homemade studs. (aka nuts and bolts mounted through the rails)

mockup pic... will buy nuts/bolts in the next day or two

mounted my old rear signals on the bike and started to play with the front signals a bit. the housings I have for the front are a single wire style that grounds through the housing but the factory mount does not have a good ground. I believe i'll be modding them into a 2 wire. for now the front and rear signals will be a different style. (rears cost me over $70 while the fronts were around $20) eventually i'll pickup a matching set.

and a few pics from my ride this evening.

Fazer front wheel... This will change riding characteristics... check the maxim x webpage... I believe its not a handling upgrade.... Looks is another thing.

    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

I am aware it will change how the bike rides. Most have noticed very little difference in ride. My bike isn't exactly a corner Carver anyways so I'm not too concerned. Can always put the stock wheel back on if I don't like it. :)

I love everything you've done/are doing to this bike (except the apes - not my style), so good luck with the rest.

Where did you get that rear fender?

And let me know how those forward controls work out, so far the cramped frame is the only thing on the Maxim I don't like!

Rear fender is just a standard trailer fender from tractor supply.

Which forward controls did you buy? I want to get some but not sure which to buy. I have an 85 xj700.

    Re: Strat's 85 Maxim project

tc bros is who I bought the controls from. they are for the xj650. you need to buy different hardware to mount them as the 650's have threaded holes in the frame where the 700 has through holes and you will need spacers to clear the outer header tubes. (i bought an extra set of nuts to use as spacers)

Ordered a new set of turn signals for the front, an electronic flasher, and a set of mirrors.

still have to install my new turn signals and flasher. mirrors will probably wait till I do some more clean up on the handle bars. i've got some ideas i've been toying with to clean up the bars.
