I put a screw driver across the starter solenoid, because I didn't make it outto get more fuses or find out what all damage I've done and BOOM! It started up with no issues and idled just fine. Well... it did pop and crack a bit....

Gas still spilled out of carb #2 when I left it on though, so that needs taken care of.

I'm back on day shift starting tomorrow. I leave the house at 6am and don't get home until 730pm, so I probably won't get a chance to look at the bike again until Friday. I'm off Fri-Sun though, so hopefully I can make some more progress.

talk about whatever you want in my threads. I don't mind.

There will be no more progress today or tomorrow, because I'm working 12 hour days. Friday I plan on swinging by the store to pick up the fuses I blew, but I'm pretty sure I toasted the starter solenoid as well, so I'll have to order one of those from somewhere. Anyone have a spare lying around?

I also just bought a different rear fender that already has the struts fabed and on, so that saves me that step. The 6" one I got from TCBros can just go towards the next project.

I think I'll start working on the gas tank next.

    To-do list

    Tank
    - stripped
    - lined
    - painted
    - installed

    Rear Fender
    - painted
    - mounted

    Seat
    - mounted

    Carbs
    - balanced
    - order some new jets if I don't hear back from 6 Sigma about the bogus ones they sent me
    - install proper jets
    - tune again

    Electrical
    - un-f*** my f***up
    - finish hooking up signals, light, and brake light
    - clean everything up and make it look purty

at this point I will be on the road and just have small things here and there as usual like fab up some sidecovers.

Totally just read this whole thing, nice work so far man! Where is that seat off of? You think it would fit a 750 maxim? I love the way it looks!

When you get back to the states, hop right back into it and share it with us along the way!

    Nice work again man!

Thanks a lot. I might have to dig it out of the shed while I'm home on vacation in March. MAYBE.... it depends on how big my honey do list is. Being gone for 4-5 months at a time that list tends to get quite large.

The 2up seat is off of a Sportster. I forget what year. Sure it can fit a maxim. You can make anything fit with a little tweaking.

hhhhmmmmm.... You MIGHT be able to talk me into selling you mine if you can't find one. I'll be home on vacation in March. the seat is really comfortable. I haven't decided on how to mount it yet though. the rear just has a tab that would bolt to the rear fender. just need to figure out the front. It sits on the frame perfectly though.

I decided not to take vacation in March, so I won't be back from Afghanistan until June/July. So, can't sell the seat until then.

    I'M BACK!!!!

Ok, so I got back from Afghanistan in March and have now moved from NC to Hagerstown, MD. Well, my 3 dogs and I have moved. The wife and kids are still in NC for now.

I haven't worked on the bike at all, but i HAVE dug it out of the shed in NC and put it in the garage. I don't have anywhere up here to work on it, but I DID bring the tank up with me to paint and line at least. I'll be heading down to NC once a month for a week at a time. I'd like to think that I'll be able to work on the bike, but I need to be working on the house getting it ready to sell. My other option is to drag it up to my parents' place in PA, which is 2 hours from me here in MD. Unless someone close by to me here in MD would want to offer me up some work space in their garage..... hint, hint :D

Well, hopefully I will have some updates here real soon. There really isn't a WHOLE lot to do, but tieing up all the little loose ends will take time, which is really hard to come by right now.

Welcome back. I'm not much closer than your parents place. About 1.5 hours from Hagerstown on the East side of Baltimore.

but do you have room for my bike in your garage, because they sure as hell don't and I don't have time to clean their garage right now..... plus they couldn't help me work on it :D

Oh, it will be staying a roller until this winter at the earliest, but I'll have my own place by then.... HOPEFULLY. If not, then I won't be stripping it for clean-up and paint then.

WOW! Has it really been over a year since I posted in here? Well, the family and I moved to Chambersburg, PA into our new house with 3 car garage last August. I haven't touched the bike at all. Right now I'm trying to finish up my Jeep XJ project, so I can move on to the BIKE XJ. Hopefully that will be in the next month or two.

How is your Cherokee doing? I just got done with a D44/9" swap,T&T LA upgrade, SYE install, upgraded to 35" MTZ's, rock sliders, winch(still needs installed), JCR OTK 1-ton steering, and picked up a rockhard cage that still needs painted and installed. A few other small things too like doing away with my homemade cowl intake and picked up a THOR cowl intake I have to install along with a ballistic fab battery box. I just need time to work on it. Custom rear drive shaft ordered and should be here next week. Hopefully I'll have it ready to roll back out of the garage by the time it shows up.

Oh, and found a guy up by Rausch (Kreiders Kustoms) that made me a rear bumper/tire carrier for $425. It has wrap around side protecetion that hugs the rear quarter panels with them cut and folded, which I did just before installing the bumper. I installed the THOR rear panel armor/tail light boxes as well with LED tail lights.

Where do you go? Have you been up to Rausch or do you know of any local FREE trails? I just got my new rear drive shaft in today. I have to install that, secure my battery, check my fluids (fill up transfer case and tranny after installing the SYE and dropping the tranny pan and replacing the filter). Then I THINK I'm about ready to take it for a spin around the neighborhood. If all goes well it should just need a little tweaking and I'm ready to roll.

I went to Green ridge state forest in MD but they closed the trail. I've also been down to Peter's Mill in VA that's not bad either but nor really hard. I haven't been to Rausch. I need other people to go with.

Driveshaft installed last night. Fluids topped off.... ready to see if this thing will fire up and roll out of the garage. If it does I just have some tweaking and a few small things to install (winch, tube fender flares, cowl intake, battery box...) and I'll be ready for inspection. Once that is taken care of we'll need to plan a trip to Rausch. I am going to link up with Blueridge Jeepers. Check out their website/forums.

Ah, the fun part of modified vehicles.

I'd have to get my floor fixed up but otherwise she's rolling and ready to go. I have new gear sets but they're way down the list of things to do.

Are you going to regear yourself? I haven't attempted that yet. My new axles came with lockers and 4.88's. Mini spool in the rear and lockright in the front.

When I did my floors I didn't know how to weld, so I just used some adhesive and sheet metal screws. I was going to go back, take out the screws, and rivet them in place, but the sheet metal screws worked fine, so I didn't bother.

yeah I'm doing the gears myself. I have everything for the gears. Even different housings so as not to make the Jeep undriveable, which was sersious concern at my last house.

I need time and some money for things like ball joints and unit bearings and brakes for the regeared axles. The stuff on the Jeep now isn't worth the hassle of swapping over.

I've got 4.56 for a danda 30 front and chry 8.25 in the rear. So stock axles for now. Until I just moved I had no place to leave it torn down long term for an axle swap other than a straight bolt in. I'm debating selling the gear sets I have and getting some bigger axles.

Any chance you want a brand new Lockright locker for the 8.25. Still in the box, never installed. I ended up upgrading axles before I got around to installing it.

Alright, this "project" has basically turned into a chat thread with me and iwingameover... hahahahaha

Hey, when are we going wheeling? I am REALLY close to getting my POS ready for inspection. We need to plan a trip to Rausch. If I have a deadline I might actually get the work done quicker.

I want to wrap up the work on my Jeep XJ, so that I can get to work on my bike XJ. The bike bug bit me again and I really want to ride!

    Well......right on cue.....

Summer hit and the bike bug bit me HARD. Of course, the Jeep isn't done yet, but I'm not letting that keep me from working on the bike this year. The new goal is to have the bike up and running this riding season and then the Jeep done before the end of Winter. That is COMPLETELY doable, but seeing how little progress I've made on everything in the last 3-5 years, I could still drop the ball and end up back on here in a few more years saying the same old shit.

I DID hook up a battery to the bike last week, threw some gas in the auxiliary tank, and the f'er fired right up, but gas poured out of the pod filters. I popped the carbs off to check them out and what did I find when I opened them up??? Yeah..... it wasn't pretty. They were all gummed up again. I am going to need another rebuild kit and I might as well go up a few jet sizes while I'm at it. I was STILL looking for a kit, but I might just buy the jets by themselves instead of continuing to beat my head against the wall looking for a kit.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to work on cleaning them up a little bit tonight.

Get er done bud! Best bet to buy jets from XJ4ever. Cheaper that way you don't need the kit.

Apparently I already placed an order with Len for some new jets, but I don't ever remember getting them. It was right before I deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan after losing my job back in 10/2010. I really don't want to buy a THIRD set of jets for this thing, but I guess I might have to bite the bullet and shell out another $50 before I can put these back together and get them installed.

WOW! I didn't realize how long it had been since I've posted in here. The XJ is still sitting. I chopped off the whole ass end of it and ripped out all of the wiring like 2 years ago and haven't touched it since. I've had a lot of stuff going on in life and at work, but hopefully I'll have more garage time here soon. I have to finish up some work on the family's daily drivers, my '99 Durango, and then will probably get the Jeep XJ finished up before moving on to the Yamaha XJ. Just thought I'd post a quick note in here.
