First of all, this is my first post with my first bike (XJ650 '80). I've found lots of help from other posts here, so thanks for that.

This problem however I cannot find on the forums. I've just put in a secondhand new throttle line, as it came with the whole right side 'clam' I needed to replace. The old throttle line needed replacement anyway.

I've installed the line without problems after removing the tank. The bike stays in low RPM just fine when the steering wheel is faced forward, but when I turn the steering wheel to right or left the RPM shoots up to around 4000.

I've tried to reroute the throttle line, and the idle screw at the carbs is allready set to the 'lowest' setting. The adjustment on the base of the throttle line (near the steering wheel) is also set to give maximum inner line.

How do I fix this? Is it a simple routing problem or do I need to cut away a bit of the outer shell lining? Guess I should've paid more attention to where the original throttle line was.

I'd get a correct NEW replacement cable and be done with it.

For future reference, I found the problem. After examining the length of both the old and the new inner wiring, I concluded they were the same length. So I rechecked the cable for damage, and found some loose wiring near the throttle. I carefully corrected that damage, and it runs fine again.
