I read a lot of motorcycle magazines and pay attention to the new bikes coming out. I do appreciate the technology and advances and aides but wonder how it will last. Our XJ's are durable and repairable but I wonder how the new technology will survive. The bikes we see as classics are easily repaired and maintained and restored. How long are parts and computers going to be available to restore what is being built and sold now. Thoughts?

Every generation has had someone think the same thing about what was new at that time. Some prefer new things, others would rather keep riding their steam velocipede. Both are equally cool.

Went on a ride today through some mud. My dad has a BMW GS, which he laid down in a puddle, and upon re starting, had like 4 warning lights come on. To be honest, I am a little scared of new technology. As nice as it is to have FI, I'd much rather take a single-carb'd KLR around the world over a BMW. A computer shouldn't be required to repair a motorcycle. Maybe

All that being said, I'm thinking about getting a Kawasaki Versys...Or waiting till yamaha comes out with the FJ-09.

They won't be. It will be entirely up to the "recyclers" and salvage yards just like it is now for some of our parts (like mufflers for instance.)

You forgot about the enthusiasts. Without enthusiasts we wouldn't be able to get brand new FI sytems that can be adapted to any vehicle (Megasquirt and Microsquirt), or brand new CDI and TCI units. Anything with a following will have a market for replacement parts, either via aftermarket suppliers or hobbyists.
