I'm thinking shaft-drive or not, a PROPERLY TUNED Seca 650 Turbo ought to run off and leave that 600 in a half a mile.

Not a Seca that needs its valves adjusted, its carbs attended to, the turbo and wastegate serviced, etc.

But then again, in what state of tune is that '94 600?

i don't see the reasoning behind having to be faster. i feel it is just as stupid as the people that fly by to pass me then end up going 5 or 10 kph slower than i was, but no, they can't be behind anyone....

SO in conclusion............................................................................................................................................................... I have thought non stop about this idea

I live in indiana so that means i have lots of winter time to tear down clean up nut for nut the bike rewiring and all thats scary for me but it would be the best tribute i could do for the simple fact

That my Dad gave me the bike and its not in bad shape. i know he would love to see it in great shape. so thats what should be done and besides that as my wife stated I dont wnat this to be a vehcle that i am going to have to do more defensive driving for you is it ????????

so there it is and might i say that there is not a web site i have found for the katana that is as informative as this is for our bikes and thats GREAT hee hee ha ha i hope i win and thanks

Katanas suck. There are some fast ones with gsxr 1100 motor swaps, but the stock 600's suck. I would put money that the 650 turbo will beat it.

    Men...*sigh*

Well since you got in a p*ssing contest with your buddy... I'd say a 650 Seca Turbo would beat a 600 Katana IF the Seca was properly tuned and maintained. Also take the rider into consideration. (My brother would get that Seca up to speed faster than I would with my uhm... wonderfullness)

My Seca was not turbo and I had it up to 115mph according to my GPS. It was scary, and a little too unstable for my taste.

Uhmmm query what or is there a set back to having shaft drive cause all my friends are stoked. they have never seen a shaft driven bike and my thinking is two ways on this.....

One is the quick well theres good reason why and thats cause they suck

    OR

Two it means no chain lag or belt lag so its going as soon as i twist the throttle with utmost responsiveness so..............................................

let me know if you wish what your thoughts are on shaft drives thank you

Chain drives consume 2% of your power, shaft drives, or really the 90* bevel gears, consume 5 %, or, you waste 3% of your energy all the time, compared to a chain bike.

In a Honda Gold Wing or BMW, there is only one bevel gear set, so they waste 2 1/2 % as compared to a chain's 2%- - about the same.

I looked up the Katana. Let's assume you and your friend weigh 150 LBS.
    Katana- - 458 LB + 150= 608. . . 86 HP. . . or 7.06 LB/HP
    Turbo- - -577 LB + 150 = 727. . . 90 HP. . .or 8.07 LB/HP

You need to make 104 HP to just beat him.
You also need to launch "on boost" by holding your brakes, clutch, and juicing the bike to six grand.
Even if you can stay with him in the 1/4 mile, he'll run away by the 1/2 because you'll run out of gear- - you can't hold a turbo in the redline at full throttle without something letting go.

    Then there's the brakes.
    Somewhere between weak and dismal.
Your brake lines will puff out like an old lady's Vericlose Veins.
If you ever got to 140, you'd need another 1/2 mile to stop.

(Tell me if you need any parts. )

    Well thanks.

What you need to do, without telling your wife, is buy a 'Busa from an insurance wreck auction- - lightly damaged total. Three grand ??
Then build THIS bike- - -

Ditto 317. That sure looked like a public highway they were on. There are a lot of legitimate ways to get your thrills without resorting to this kind of stupidity.

Assuming my kph-mph calculations are correct the xj1100 should be able to reach about 210-215 kph or low 130's in mph. Is your bike completely stock? If not, what mods does it have. They can have a large impact on performance especially intake, exhaust, carb mods.
