Valve Clearances Question

    Lets say you are right on the tight side (.016mm) of what the book says. So when you change shims to the next number down. Example 310 to 305 if that puts you on the looser side (.021mm) of the spec and your valve train makes noise thats ok?

    Not really. But if you're within the spec range (and .016mm IS within the spec range) then you should not be changing that shim! Within spec means within acceptable clearance, and "acceptable clearances" within engineering-speak actually is a conservative specification, if you go down to .015mm, for instance, it's not an "end-of-the-world-your-engine-will-grenade-itself-tomorrow" kinda thing.
