I cutently have an 83 550 seca. But I have been looking for an 82 650 turbo for three years now. I have found some fantastic finds online (4000 miles fully restored, kept in the south), but I miss them by a few days.
I figured I would post here, this site has helped me fix a bike, maybe it will help find one.
Now I have been able to find plenty of the standard 650 turbo, the shop down the way has one. But the euro style (looks like a standard 650) styled in silver with blue stripes, is a one in a million shot. Maybe you have some info, maybe you just bought one in Kansas and you've had a change of heart. I would love to add to my seca collection.
Please any info would be great.

Never even heard of it - got any pictures ??

There's people on this site that have put turbos in other models,
could it be you saw one like that, and thought it was "factory" ??

If someone had a wrecked Turbo, and a non-running, titled bike, it really wouldn't be that difficult.

I think you've got your Secas crossed. There wasn't a "standard" 650 Turbo; the "standard" 650 Seca, the XJ650RJ, was a naturally-aspirated, non-YICS bike. It came in the silver scheme with the blue and white stripes, and was only brought to the USA for 1982. I think that's the bike you're referring to. It's not turbocharged.

The 650 Turbo, on the other hand, had the factory half-fairing and angular lines, what you referred to as the "standard Turbo."

Naturally-aspirated '82 650 Seca, original scheme, grubby but "as delivered" except for aftermarket case guards:

Yes, I don't remember a different turbo and I have not seen any unfaired turbos for sale - only the ones with the angular stying Fitz describes.

    Some Turbo trivia :
    There were 5,000 '82's, 1,500 '83's, all silver , except -
There were 8 black ones !
And the brochure seems to show a charcoal grey one.
The gas tanks on the '83 was bigger, inside the same plastic housing??
Yamaha installed the "power-up" kit for free, doubling the boost.

And you could fit the 900 engine bits inside, with some work.

Yes that is the one. I guess it has been mis-listed everywhere I have looked. I always find it listed as 82 650 seca turbo euro. Is it possible that the european version had a turbo option?
Well I guess I will start by looking for a 82 650 seca and see what comes up.
Thanks for the info. Is there a place on this site that lists all the years/makes with photos? Might be something to add for a new to seca guy like me.

I've only been here for a couple of months but in that time, I've done a huge amount of research on the 650 turbo. This is the very first time I've ever heard reference to a "euro" edition or that the turbocharger may have been an "option" which leads me to believe that either is pretty unlikely. There are so many basic differences in the 650 Seca engine and the turbo that having it listed as an option really wouldn't be possible. There are Euro requirements that differ then those in the US but as my experience with my other vintage bikes teaches me, they are usually centered around lighting configurations(turn signal and headlight sizes and lens colors) and sometimes, seat straps or grab handles rather then anything style-wise.

    Your best bet is:

Good luck though finding the bike you're looking for!

Not really, at least not with photos. Chacal has a listing of all the XJ models both USA and for the rest of the world, here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14577.html

"Seca-wise" the USA didn't get much.

You already know about the 550s, they were model years 81-83. The 750 Seca ran the same course, 81-83. The naturally aspirated 650R Seca was a one-year model for us, 1982; the 650 Turbo was here for 82-83, and the Seca 900 was a one-year bike here as well, 1983. There was also a 400 Seca, the DOHC twin "half an XJ" that was available 82-83. And that's IT for us.
