Wanted, 1983 Seca 900 Bra fairing

Looking for a fairing for a 1983 yamaha Seca 900 like the one in the link.

That's not a bra fairing. That is a standard, fork-mounted fairing for the '83 xj900rk seca. They were on the earlier 900rk's and the later ones had a larger frame-mounted fairing like is seen on the fj600. The smaller one has the reputation of instability at high speeds, but I know that mine has been pretty stable at 100mph, so I'm not sure what the 'instability' was, nor at what speed they were referring to.....

Watch ebay......they show up from time to time. Be ready to pay a pretty penny, though, too.....

The Stock Fairing on early 900-RK's were insufficiently buttressed to prevent aerodynamic forces from causing the front-end to become unstable at high-speed. ( +115 mph approx.)

The lack of a firm mount to the frame, along with the flexibility of the outermost portions of the "Fairing" attributed to a dangerous condition when air got passed-over them at high-speed.

The outermost sections developed "Lift".
Like the forces that allow aircraft to fly; the fairing reacted to the air streaming across the outside surface.

The Lift would pull the bike in the direction of the decreased pressure.

With the Fairing allowed to react to Pressure Variables created by the Wing-like surface, ... the Fairing behaves like a Wing and begins to act as an airfoil.

The Fairing begins to OSCILLATE to the left-and-right.
As each side begins to Lift and Stall, ... the opposite side Lifts as the other side Stalls.

The Motion is transferred to the whole front end.

 

i just called it a bra because i honestly had no other way of explaining what kind of fairing it was due to the different styles so i thought id say bra so people think smaller but im probably the only one who thinks that..lol;
i saw one on ebay it not too good condition a week ago it was missing a mounting bracket and was 145$ so yeah i can definately imagine the price on a really good condition one. i just hope the chance comes up because really wanting to put this bike back to looking factory instead of fairingless
