Xj750 maxim. Besides having trouble starting what are the symptoms of a weak battery? My battery light is always on but will sometimes shut off after running a while. Bike usually starts first go also.

I took the battery to a battery place and they said it was fine but the bike says it's not even though it works...

    Thanks!

Your battery has a big job to do. While it might seem like it has enough power to crank the engine over, it must also provide the initial spark to get her going!

How old is the battery? Do you have a meter so that you can check voltage yourself? The cheap one from Harbor Freight will do.

What kind of battery do you have? The battery sensor has a white wire with a red tracer that is submerged in one of the holes in your battery, assuming you have an open one (not AGM or other closed type battery). You can bypass this with a kit from Chacal or do it yourself. Chacal shows what is involved here

The battery sensor itself (if it is of the original style) is a float that measures the electrolyte level in the battery. Check the electrolyte level. The battery may need to be topped off with distilled water. A batery can be fine even though the electrolyte level is low, but (just like running an engine wil a low oil level) eventually the level will drop low enough to kill the battery).
If the electrolyte level is fine, then either replace the sensor with a new one, or get the kit mentioned above to convert it to a low-voltage monitor.
