I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but currently we are allowed a total of 0(zero) links in our signature lines. Those links have been so helpful and save some of us from needing to re-link often used information. Could links be allowed in signatures at some future date?

OK, I'm an IT guy (admittedly old-school though, no Faceplant, no Twitting, and my phone is for phone calls it don't do "innanet.")

    But I have questions:

How to reset the password to one of one's own choosing? The random mish-mosh that was generated is not easily committed to memory.

How can I fix or re-size my avatar? Duck Dodgers has a Yamaha tuning fork in his topknot that took me hours to build pixel-by-pixel, and now it's been lopped off.

Is there a way for a user to insert their location so it shows up under their avatar, like <ahem> ? Or anywhere, for that matter? It really helps prevent silly suggestions if we know someone is in the UK, Australia or even Canada before we send them to AutoZone or WalMart.

How does one edit one's sig? Or any profile info for that matter?

Is there a "help" link somewhere I missed that would answer all these idiot user questions? In my line of work we refer to these issues as "ID-10-T" errors. (User: "my stuff is missing." IT guy: "what stuff?" User: "I DON'T KNOW!!! But it's gone!)

Thanks, CN. Not used to this "mouse over" thing; I kinda like being able to see my choices without having to poke for them. That's why I always set Winders for "Classic View" and turn off "personalized menus."

The whole damn thing (technology in general) is becoming way too "phone oriented" for me; one of my guys was touting a new smartphone that has specs that would rival a SERVER of only 8 or so years ago. What if I don't want my PC to turn into a phone? I'm not anti-tech, that's how I make my living. I AM anti-silliness but the whole rest of the world seems to have become distracted by their newest shiny object.

So we have to put our location in our sig? Or is there a way to add a "caption" to our avatar?

I had to clean up (remove) all old signatures. I will be making some changes to how many characters/lines are allowed in the signatures...

Avatar sizes are the same for all users at this time.

Fitz, you can scroll the avatar image so it shows the top of your hat. You'll loose the image from the neck down though.

A couple of times I get logged out but it still shows in The Members Online section that I am logged in.

Should I be checking the "stay logged on" box when logging in?
If you don't does the system automatically log you off after posting?

The more technology advances the further behind I fall . . . .

I get logged off if I close the browser and stay off for more than a few minutes. Just now, though, I got logged off randomly in the middle of adjusting some of my settings. When I went to post to another forum, I found I had been logged off and had to re-logon.

Just noticed that if one is in the forums, and clicks on either "Home" or the XJBikes logo (both in the upper left) that the <username>/Inbox/Alerts above the search box -- and indeed, the search box itself -- all disappear. Like one isn't even logged on. Those link to xjbikes.com/forums.

OTOH, clicking on the "forums" button or link points at xjbikes.com/forums/index.php -- and the status indicators in the upper right are still there.

    Anything to worry about, or...?

I can't wait to be able to properly format my signature. And +1 on the location ID. I can live without my "red liner" status since I achieved it mainly asking questions.

Erf that. I will figure out how to resize; or I may re-design altogether.

Maybe the more jaunty, modern high-tech Dodgers. (He's my hero for a reason. OK, multiple reasons.) NASA knows why...

So I tried to fix my sig. I have three XJs; one I ride daily, one that is operational but "on standby" and one project bike. Plus my beloved original Norton Commando.

I couldn't even list my DR. It said it was 179 characters too long.

I'm thinking "signature" is not where we need to do this. I'm sure the ability to add this info (bike info, as we've always asked people to do) plus location info, must exist SOMEWHERE. OK, it's not the sig. Where then does it go, please?

No worries. Us Old Farts are a bit anxious when dealing with change is all.

Funny, because I used to believe in "life is change*" but now all I want is everything to stay put. (Getting old sucks.)

But I still want a sig and for location info to be part of the displayed profile. Take your time; we all know you have a day job.

    You ARE old!
And have good taste in music . . .

When I click your avatar it tells me your are located at "The former celery capital of the USA, and birth . . ." And it cuts off there.

Somewhere, some how I managed to get my bike info to show up on the bottom. But yes, you are limited for characters.

We NEED full-on signatures so we know who has what and what has been done to it, etc.

I fixed my profile. Capac lost its "celery capitol" reputation SO long ago, and nobody knows who Preston Tucker was.

And yes I'm old. Jefferson Airplane penned most of the "counterculture hymns" of my generation. (the "first born atomic generation...")

"We're all outlaws in the eyes of Amerika; in order to survive we steal, cheat, lie, forge, f*ck, hide, and deal... we are obscene, lawless, hideous, dangerous, dirty, violent and YOUNG and we are very proud of ourselves..." -- from Volunteers, 1970 (the year I graduated high school.)

Except I'm not YOUNG any more. Dammit. Of course I still...
