.. and that was just grades 11 and 12.

 

Started with a 2 door 1983 Buick lesabre, mile long and a 307 ci boat anchor under the hood. With the pedal on the floor you could literally watch the needle on the gas gauge go down as you went. Lots of room to pack friends in though. Then onto a 92 S-10, which met it's demise at a power pole. Picked up an 82 or 83 S-10 which I sold after it started leaving a quarter mile long blue haze behind it, which brought me to a free 80 f-150 2wd, 302, 3spd auto and a cross between calf scour and vomit brown complete with giant rust hole in passenger floor board. Then senior year before college I bought a 92 gmc 2500 4x4 which I rebuilt the small block in. That was a fun truck for what it was. Never scared to take it anywhere in any condition. It finally dies a few years ago when the current owner rolled it over a few times.

 

Ahh, to grow up in the Land of the 55cents gallon, lol....NO one, in the UK, could afford more than a motorcycle, i think gas was about 2 pounds a gallon, back in the mid 70's!!

 

No car in high school but my first vehicle was a 1973 Kawasaki KZ400. Add it to the list of wish I still had's.

1966 Pontiac LeMans, 326 2bbl 2 speed slushbox. in 71 a 66 was just a old car

 

Datsun 310 hatchback, then a kz440ltd. Both 82's.

 

I graduated from high school in 1986. My first car was a 1966 Chevelle convertible my father and I built (and he funded). We pulled the body off the frame and started from there. LS6 454 crate engine (eventually to have a nice roller cam), M20 4-speed, and a 3.31:1 posi. Ran a best of 12.01 with 10 inch slicks. Never got a ticket, never wrecked it, either.

 

That truly means something.
I had a friend who acquired a 1970's ish Camaro. Not sure what was in/ on it but that car would GRAB and GO when you stomped it!!! Sadly, within two weeks of owning it he wrapped it around a telephone pole - fortunately he wasn't hurt - car was done.

 

81 chevy impala with a 283 transplanted in. air shocks in the back and dual cherrybomb exaust with chrome tips. ugly as hell but rand great, really miss that thing

Post high school I had a 75 IH Scout with the slant 4, had a cherry bomb exhaust on that. Every time I would go to my parents house in the suburbs of Milwaukee I would get pulled over.

Hated getting rid of it, but as vehicles do in Wisconsin, rust ate everything on it, it was pretty much a Fred Flinstone vehicle when I had to let her go. The slant 4 was a dream to work on, I could sit on the quarter panel facing the engine and work on it. Was going through a divorce and didn't have the funds to save her.

At the risk of sidetracking, I went to a storage yard today and saw this while I was there. The Chevy body is pretty clean and no the tires are not flat, that is how far it has sunk into the ground. Sad to see

 

The tri 5 Chevys are going up and up in value... You should make an offer. Maybe someone doesn't know what they're holding! Lighter than a Corvette, and room for whatever engine you like. Every part still being made today and massive aftermarket support make this a blank slate. You could do anything to that car.

 

It's funny, I don't know how my folks instilled respect for the deadly power that is an automobile, but my sister's first car was an '86 IROC and she never wrecked it or got a ticket in it either.

1971 Mercury Comet with 302 v8 in last year of high school, 1979. Same as a Maverick. It was made for the curves because it sure didn't track straight, s-bends everywhere it went. Drum brakes and standard steering, a real POS.

 

Love those. That rear window was a big deal back then. It was "hot wire bent," and GM used glass like that on several cars. The '77-'79 Impala/Caprice, and a special edition Toronado, plus the later Monte SS.

 

Hahaha had the same car in college. I put like 5k on it with the driver's rear strut mount through the body... but that's what the c-pillar is for. Only car that I had a catastrophic wheel bearing failure on... that's what the stereo was for. 340,000k when I junked it. The drivetrain was nearly driving out of the front end.

 

what a coinkidink! my first ever car was a '72 super beetle with the 2-speed hydrostatic trans. Burnt a valve in it and sold to a girl I liked... like a retard. It was that 70s beige color like the nazis' station wagon in the Blues Brothers. I called it reclusive-old-nazi-weirdo-beige.

 

My mom had one,yes love that fold flat seat setup was like a queen size bed

 

Bah! You don't need that for that! I was able to get it on in the back of wife's 87 Prelude. Headlights weren't the only things popping up! Did I go too far?

First car ( bought it at age 15) was a 1986 Chevy Celebrity Station wagon. ( Bought it in 1999).

 

In 84 bought my first car a 74 Pinto from my grandparents neighbor for 100$ of hard earned money , when your 16 you didn't care much it was wheels . I was proud of it had been riding a 74 Honda trail 70 ...good until snow flies... Now with 4 wheels AM/FM radio and heater ..could take my girlfriend anytime of year ...Dad put 2 new fenders, and 2 new doors and painted to match ( old ones were rusted ) Had my first wreck spun out in the snow hit edge of wall broke steering rack...fixed it , but had a summer job at Ditch Witch as a Goffer and made enough money Sold Pinto for like 300$ , bought a 75 Pontiac Ventura with a 260 Oldsmobile V8 ...drove it thru high school and college .. after college bought first new vehicle 87 Chevy S10 Tahoe ...loaded (great truck) Sold Ventura to my best friend he drove car to all the military bases he was at he had it at least 9 years , he sold it on to a kid in town down south ...wonder what happened to it I've had more cars and bikes since 87 when I got out of College than I count.

 

1964 Nova ss (gasser with a straight axle, blue printed 283/292 small block) won a street race the other was a -700$ '71 Monte carlo (the hwy. cruiser) l

 

Had two a 64 ss box gaser and a 71 283 v8 283 with 2500 stall automatic.

1973 VW bug. One of the rare pieces of advice I listened to from older guys was "Man, I wish I'd never gotten rid of my....." whatever first car.

So I never did and still have the bug.

 

68 Camaro 327/2bbl with a two speed slushbox that I bought for $300.

 

1974 Pinto bought for 100$ , later had a 1975 pontiac Ventura.

 

1962 Buick Special.

It had a 215 CI V8 with an aluminum block and Aluminum Heads. My uncle gave it to me in non-running condition in 1995 when I was 14 and I worked in his automotive shop to earn money to get it running.

I think working on that car is what turned me into an automotive enthusiast.

 

My 66 amc Fish didn't have a hatch back but the car was a cruiser with the 327. Sold it for 250$ and regretted it. I was the 3rd owner. Still got some emplems.

 

4 door yellow Chevy chevette, still almost lost my drivers license in that thing. Even got one excessive use of power ticket. Rear wheel drive with and center pull emergency brake. The car I was planning on getting was a GTO, but my step dad knew better and told me I would lose my license in a yr. He was totally right and supper glad he talked me out of the GTO.

400 2bbl, turbo 400 trans.

This was a sleeper and I smoked a LOT of muscle cars with it, even tho the gearing was kind of high for light to light sprints.
