Pulled carbs and inlet stubs in the rain (horrible English drizzle!) to re-jet to correct spec & double check clean (should be, ran ok apart from air leak due to no inlet stub gaskets and bad airbox positioning)
Removed sticky throttle cable to find lovely sharp frayed bit

Just about to get on with carbs after cup of tea & bite to eat... (indoors this time, cosy in the sitting room :D )

EDIT-: carbs all shiny and rejetted/needled and even re piston-springed after enormous help from chacal ascertaining which springs were the right length for 32mm carbs, thanks for that 8)

All go as soon as I wake tomorrow (weather permitting) to find out what she sounds like with enough fuel in the mixture!

Well, this week I: Finally got it through my thick skull that pods are not going to be worth it. (I know, I know "dont bring up pods again newb!") Going to pull down the old airbox and joints and order a new filter.
Cleaned the carbs and man did they need it. Got them back together. Cleaned up the headers for high heat paint and wrapping.

This weekend will be getting the carbs back on, airbox hooked up right, new filter in, headers on, valver cover back on, some paint here and there (headers and H pipe) and the tank on with all fuel lines hooked up.

Warm weather is a great motivator!

Nothing to the actual bike, it rained all day :(
did finish putting piston springs & enrichment rail back on carbs though, plus out of boredom completely stripped the spare set & stored the parts ready for if/when they get used or moved on...

Took only about a 25 mile ride on the Midnight while my 3 year old was napping and my wife was home.
Ride was too short, but the bike really ran well. The weather was perfect and I would have liked to have ridden for hours.

I looked at some of mine for a minute, then went out for several hours on the Polaris.

Began fixing the wide-boards-wide-cracks floor of an old barn to make it suitable for wrenching on my XJ (and my other Yamahas); will have to put a big tarp 10 feet from the floor to catch water dropping from the roof (snow is melting)

And may it keep melting till it's gone, and not come back till winter :)

Played about with intake stubs trying to correct air leak on #1. Feel It's going to need pulling apart again though.

Checked TCI wiring to try identify pinouts on an iffy 650 loom in the phillipines!

It sure felt like spring around here! 55 and sunny!

Solved fuel and battery warning light issues with resistors and jumpers. Reassembled everything, threw on my jacket and helmet, and hit the street for a 25 mile ride. The float bowl adjustments fixed the high idle issue when the engine was warm. Thanks to all who post helpful know-how.

Oh man, that felt good to ride!!!

This weekend i checked the stator brushes and discovered one is drastically short. This could very well be the cause of my bike stalling out uphill. Found a replacement stator unit on ebay. Hopefully it will arrive this week.

I wrapped the headers and reinstalled the exhaust system. Looks good. Real good. I also lowered the shocks.

I removed both fenders and scraped off the ridiculous racing stripes someone had added. I also ripped out a stupid glow light someone added under the rear fender.

I've just about finished painting the side panels. The system I'm using is a cheap but works for now. Tomorrow I'll start painting the tank and fenders.

I also checked the final drive oil. All seems well.

Warmed up the bike and was tempted to give it a ride but I need to do a couple more things to the front brakes and the 300 feet of sloppy dirt road between my garage and dry pavement kept it inside today.
