Calculated miles I rode on the XJ550 maxim from date of purchase through December 31st, 2012 last year: almost 3700 miles from approximately July through late November when the bike was road-worthy. (Yes I do keep of mileage everytime I fill gas tank I write down mileage and record on spreadsheet saved on my desktop.)

Also today I assembled new drive chain with new 16T front sprocket and 47t rear sprocket. Mounted rear wheel with new drum shoes and made sure she shined up real good with Mothers polish. Busy day for me but love working out in the barn with such terrific weather. Can't wait to ride the thing when the weather stays cooperative. It didn't bother me that others were riding today; salty roads and weathers' gonna turn cold again anyhow...

Today I replaced the fasteners on the wrap on my pipes. It was utility wire, but that didn't look good. Now it's a solid metal band.

Stripped the paint of the rear fender. I put a clear coat on the gas tank, but got impatient and screwed it up. So I re-sanded and primed it again along with the rear fender.

    Painting them black tomorrow.

Unfortunately nothing, as my sleep problems cropped up again & I ended up sleeping through Tuesday until about an hour ago (02.45am here)

With any luck I'll still be up later in the morning now though, ready & raring to tear off the 1977 front tyre (!), polish the wheel up & fit the nice new rubber

damn, hope the bike wasn't too bad? :(

Got spanky new front tyre and fitted, warmed bike up with a quick spin round the corner & grabbed the sync gauges & YICS tool.
Looks like my bench sync (using the lesser practiced visual technique looking at a bright light shining through pistonless bodies) was pretty spot on 8) so much so that I didn't quite believe it & had to throw it all out to check the YICS was blocked properly! Thought she ran pretty smooth from the get go, that'd be why...

Well happy now, well on the way to having a lovely bike all sorted for spring :D

    Small mercies, huh :)

Frustrating though having parts to fit & no access. Do they know how the fire started? And how come 4 months, suspected arson or something? that's waaaay long....

started with a spark from a welder found its way to a thinner barrel. The shop needs new roof and all the equipment there must have been an angel watching over the bike cause that's the only thing that didn't get hurt.It was me welding.Small shop everything is so close to everything else was bound to happen. The bike was sitting far side of the shop under a tarp waiting for a new neutral light switch.

Feel for ya bud, not a nice position to be in that :(

At least the bike is alright though, and possible you'll be able to get some work done sooner. I don't know if anyone in your area is a member here, if I was I'd be straight round to lend a hand cleaning up (easy to say when I'm on the other side of the world, but the forum's done so much for me it'd only be fair to pay it on if I could...)

today i Ordered new intake boots, gaskets, and fuel cap gasket.(from Len of course!) i think five years of trying the latest fix; innertubes, RTV, ect.,ect. is enough messing around..Now i'm off to my local yami shop to get engine oil, and filter and fork oil. Tonight will include a full tooth brush cleaning and touching up any paint chips. i already "race prepped the carbs" full tear down and slide bore polish..when the weather breaks here in Michigan i want to be ready for the first time in ten years

Put my airbox in (it cracked as i thought it would, but not to bad) put the starter on and the boots in the box. Put the battery holder/box in. Cleaned the intake manifold mating surfaces. And finally put my horns back on! Then sat and wondered were these 4 bolts i found came off of and if i missed something, turns out they are for the backrest :) ....which i dont use lol
