Yep, this Turbo has the Power Boost Kit. I discovered that while up under it's butt connecting stuff. I don't think the PO knew that. I should get a chance today to further test things as my dead end road is only 1/2 mile to the end and there are little kids in between. Bad manners to get too hooligan like that there. I have not yet been all the way through your Naked Seca build but what I have read is really inspiring. @Simmy.

the boost controller stuff came from reading on the Turbo Forum. I experimented yesterday and saw 22 psi on the boost gauge, I believe that is where the BOV opens, waste gate was held shut.
Definitely will be turning it down for the next ride.

Took off on my Johnny Cash bike put on almost 100 miles, this bike runs so well . Was so different been in the 90's when I left mid 60's was a little brisk . This bike has no fairing , my yellow seca has the sports fairing so a little more comfortable riding distance.

Was going to put the DIY pvc carb stand together, but tried Fitz's suggestion first, and mounted a couple intake boots to my workbench. Worked like a charm.

I have been adding to Chacal's retirement fund over the last year starting with the front brakes and working my way back. I just installed the oil filter conversion kit yesterday as well. So much better for oil changes.

I took my yellow seca to my local yamaha dealer to show it to the owner ...he was most impressed, made me feel good. While I was there , he was helping a young guy , with a Maxim . He brought it over this evening , will need work . The kick stand broke off the tube right before he came over , the PO took off shocks and put solid bars so it is a hard tail . Loop has been cut and of course it has PODS , and exhaust collector is bad and no mufflers . I sold him my MAC exhaust system. I want to help him out .

Well, after running the Maxim X 2013 or older oil for a while and the last 100 miles with some seafoam added, I drained it and removed the filter cover. Now I discover the washer between the spring and filter is missing. I need this back together so it is now a trip to the hardware store to see if I can find a suitable replacement. I'm not even sure if the spring is original because it's inside diameter is quite a bit larger than the bolt body and both ends have been ground. Figures.

Rode 327 miles today on the Johnny Cash bike ran great only had one problem , when I got to my daughter's house realized my auxiliary light had fallen out and was MIA  ...oh well have a spare lol . The bike ran absolutely perfect 75 mph most of the way . You know carbs are right when you can overtake a car at 60 mph without down shifting .

Congrats @Jetfixer. Well done. I put the Turbo back on the work table to figure out the fuel delivery under boost. About a mile at 5k RPM or more and it seems to use up it's fuel supply. Run at 55-60 mph and it is fine forever. Next is to get a pressure gauge tee'd in to the system and see where we are. I really hope it is not a pull the carbs again...... It sure is sweet while it has enough fuel though.

I know carbs are spot on will start without the choke and run the snot out of bike, pull to a stop light and idle is 1100 rpm steady . Hope you can get your fuel delivery issue worked out.

After removing the Kreem liner, rust, and crud from the interior my XJ700N tank, I installed a Caswell epoxy liner. That is some sticky, gooey stuff. I wouldn't want to try to apply a Caswell liner with good paint on the exterior. The result is really nice though.

Then proceeded to exterior refinish. I decided to save the cost of a bead blast and just give it a good sanding.
    20210925_042541701_iOS (2).jpg

I had worked a few dents out via glue pulling, then had just some imperfections to use some filler on.

    Then on to primer!
    20210925_192659449_iOS (2).jpg

The fenders had their turn in the electrolysis bath to be de-rusted too.

Topcoat may not happen until spring. At least there is no bare metal so everything is safe until I can get around to painting.

So long story short, I went to church 3 times this week making sure these carbs were clean as possible.
Got the floats finally set, vacuum synched and colortuned.

installed an air box I picked up off eBay, also some crash bars and rear foot pegs.

(the airbox only took me about 5 minutes to wiggle in place after removing the right 2 intake boots and starter, those damn carb-airbox boots took me the better part of an hour to get in…)

In the process of removing the starter I must’ve hit it on something because after I put it all back together all I hear is clicking… turns out the threads you mount the starter wire to was shorting. I replaced those wimpy red washers with some thick rubber ones and it works much better now. I did all this in the parking lot of the police department before my vin inspection because I have to bond for a title.

I am not a Bobber fan but that is pretty, nicely done. Having a polished tank is a tough thing, any scratch or dent will REALLY show up.

Looking good! I'm not a bobber aficionado either, but I kind of like the polished tank. Maybe you could find somebody to do PDR to get the dings out and then clearcoat it(??)

Yesterday the Turbo received it's new fuel pump. Thanks for the info in your thread @Simmy, I used the same one. Cleaned up some wiring details and today it got about 80 miles without fuel delivery issues. A riding pal tried it out and said when the boost comes in it gives a better surge than the VMax V boost. Tonight the Turbo got a new front tire to replace the 2010 unit that was on the wheel backwards. A good Yamaha day.

Sad day. Sold my Maxim. Guy who bought it is super stoked. That bike was a lot of fun. Learned a lot and it got me back into riding. Didn't want it to become run down from not enough use so I let it go. Currently working /riding on my latest purchase a 2009 Kawasaki Versy 650. Way different ride than my 550 but even more fun. The forum though for this bike isn't nearly as informative and active as this one. Appreciate all I've leaned here. I have a shim tool and a few shims I'd like to donate to the pool.

Not my Yamaha a kid I met at dealership working on his Maxim bobber I'm going through his carbs. Oh boy the PO broke the rack at some point , the butterfly seals were RTV ie: NO SEAL , the idle mixture screws were missing the washer , the float levels were different settings , one float bowl drain screw was completely hogged out , the fuel interconnect tubes were full of rust , one float was hanging up as well. Still working on them good times.

Working on getting the rust out of my tank. Didn't think I had that much in there until I saw the large pieces floating around on top of the vinegar. So I drained the vinegar, rinsed the tank, saw some more flakes in there and refilled with more vinegar to make sure I got everything. And of course, waiting on parts from Chacal so I can rebuilt the petcock and replace the gas cap gasket.

I have seen what I thought to be rust flakes - turns out they were flakes of an old Kreem liner. I tested it and it dissolved in acetone, so then I did an acetone Kreem removal procedure on the tank.

bbs will knock the cream off. also you can tumble in a drier with fish tank gravel to remove cream and rust.

dont forget to fog the tank after derusting

Very sad day , I put both of my bikes away for winter even though temp is around 50's it has rained almost every day and leaves are falling , we have alot of walnut trees around us and they have fallen onto the road ....if you happen to ride over these tends to push your bike to the side and can be slippery not to mention the squirrels helping themselves to them lots of dead one as well. The way I have put the bikes in my garage my wife can put her car in garage and my beetle on the other side . While I was in my garage I found a scary little fella ...black wooley worm ...according to lore ...LONG SNOWY WINTER.

the females are the temperamental ones and always costing money for upkeep.
Out of commission once a month and typically run hotter.

Geez, that is scary! In NY we have wooly bear catepillars that are black and reddish brown. Legend has it that you can predict your winter by the black and brown parts, black parts are the cold snowy bits separated by the brown, mid-winter thaw. The length of the different colors predicts the length of the cold or thaw. Yours has no thaw! Ouch!

My grandpa was known for predicting the winter with wooley worms. The more black, the harsher the winter, you you're in for a rough one....

Not an XJ, but took a little time off yesterday from installing my son's new furnace to prep one of his bike for winter. Drained gas from the Magna tank and added non-ethanol treated fuel. A nice ride to circulate through the carb bowls and back to the furnace job. Next will be his Vulcan. Nice weather for a ride yesterday.

Always good to help another person with a bike whether you know them or not. I was out on my other ride Sunday, great weather for November(16°c) and saw a Harley rider in the local Canadian tire parking lot on the phone waving his arms wildly and looking at his bike. Turns out his dip stick was reading low and he put in a full quart of oil only to almost over flow the tank. Let him know I had an oil pump for changing lawnmower oil at home and helped out. He was beside himself, I just told him people on two wheels need to stick together.
Also got to remove the windjammer from the parts bike to get it ready togo on the Maxim.

So it was a decent day temp 47 degrees out , spent a few hours In the garage , my Johnny Cash bike, I installed a plug for my trickle charger , ran both bikes . While I was at it on my yellow seca a few months ago I bought the lower fairing pieces from Dave Fox ( thanks Dave!) , I fabricated the mounting bracket , but still need to paint them and since the bike is against the wall , it will wait till spring . Cheers

Managed to FINALLY sync the carbs, once I realized I didn't have one of the vacuum gauge hose on tight enough. Just in time for winter. Still need to check each carb with the colortune, and then work on the rear brakes and service the shaft drive and then tires.
