You can see it in the mirror in the crankcase.

 

M8 to M6 studs fitted to front of cylinder head. M8 studs would have meant cutting new head gasket. I didn't want to risk that. Zed parts Ltd sold the studs for £1.00 each plus postage. Just need to remove shoulder where it meets the cylinder head.

 

R1 Fork conversion, R6 Mono-shock conversion, XJ700 Rear wheel, new tires... now I didn't do it all today, but did the fork conversion and new wheels/tires last night, Im pretty happy so far.

After seeing @Mezzmo refresh the covers on his foot pegs, I got inspired and ordered some from @chacal . Last night, a little degrease, wire brush and metal-rescue over night, and they're rinsed and drying in the sun. Some black epoxy paint and then I'll get them put back, good as new!

 

Today I chased down the reason my "sidelight" doesn't work. Fair enough my ignition switch is a 3 wire not a four- the bike was originally a us import, but the "park" position was lighting up the rear tail lights and the mudguard marker leds as it should. Testing the blue (sidelight according to the Haynes manual) in the headlight gave me power only on ignition on.
Read through the later us / Canada drawing, also the European versions. Nothing, not a clue. Ignition switch blue just wasn't going to the light. So I got the knife out and opened up the loom - sure enough, there it was - blue connected to red with yellow - looked like a factory job. So much for the bloomin manual.
Cut it out, spliced it with the blue and now all is well.
Oh - this was on the vmax, not the xj

 

Turned out pretty well:

Letting them dry overnight, then back on the bike! Next, that nicer seat, or perhaps the oil-change and clutch cover refresh.

 

Changed my fork oil and replaced my 39 y/o rear shocks!

 

Finally got my engine running after a major rebuild. I need to do some fine tuning but overall started up great. Video here if you’re interested...
