Disassembled the starter to see why it's running so well. Brushes were 11mm - very good, but the grease in the planet gear was dry so i cleaned it up and put in some new grease. Well in fact i cleaned it all up and now i hope to start the bike the next couple of years without any problems.

Pulled both XJ headers for sandblasting, will also be pulling both forks apart for rebuilds, calipers, polish, and more.

Definitely looked at my bike, then looked at all the ice outside, then cried a little.

I did however give it a thorough inspection, cleaned + adjusted the chain, in preparation for warmer weather next week,

I organized my tools on my improvised "shop" on my porch, with a special place for my german-made brand new torque-wrench. Ah, and fixed my paypal account so that I can order shims and other stuff from wemoto.com (UK).
I bought my xj400 late october/10, and I can't wait to have it running.

Took my tires off last night and ran them down to cyclegear with the new BattlAx's I got. Going to pick them up after work tonight and re-mount them. 30 bux a tire if i walked them in, 50 bux if I drove it in.

Going to pick up oil and do that too since I'm feeling productive,

couldn't find brake pads there, anybody got a recommendation?

Went for a 35mi ride on the snowmobile, then went inside by the woodstove and removed the whole exhaust system on my 900rk. Cleaned, polished, and detailed it. Then, put it all back on. I think there were parts of the muffles that had never been cleaned since it left the factory. Now it REALLY shines. :) Yesterday, I went and looked at all the others. I tiptoed in so that I wouldn't wake any of them. One of them grunted and snuffled a little bit but didn't wake up. I think I was able to stay downwind of them, too, so they didn't know I was even there.

Checked for fuel valve operation, replaced fuel filter, changed brake fluid (I have binders now!), traced the wiring short, oddly enough NOT to the fuse box (getting replaced tomorrow anyway), but to the hack wiring job a PO did with an in-line fuse.

Saturday: Clean carbs, drill and tap broken carb to engine sleeve bolt (ugh x2) block sand all parts, spray dupont sealer then jet black.. then experiment with clear flattening agent at midnight! bake parts, shake head at bike, go home.

today: reassemble bike, tune carbs (wtf!) figure out idle situation, toast a battery in the process :) fun weekend!

I put a new master cylinder on my XJ650. I also cleaned out and put a
new kit into the wheel cylinder. Cleaned all the lines and the manifold.
Had the usual fun with bleeding the air out of the system but ok now.

OK, so technically, it was Saturday.......rode the heck out of my turbo. Love seeing the boost gage ripping over 5 then 10 then 15 psi as the speed compresses time....exponentially. It doesn't have the low end rip your guts out grunt of my resprocketed Vstrom 1000 nor the high rpm zip of my H2's....just very smooth, very deceiving, very quiet get up and GO!

Nuff work, now it's time to enjoy the other part of owning....riding!

I bought a triple tree from an '83 650 and a round headlight to replace the rectangular beast. I also got some new fuel line and a filter. I have many parts from Chacal ready to be installed this weekend. I also got an exhaust off an '82 Seca to scavange the exhaust pipes and collector box.

    - New washers for the cam cover
    - Oil level sender rubber ring
    - New fuse box

Time to get her back up and running.

So I finally got my brake lines from Rennsportsautoparts dot com.....

not sure I can recommend them, not sure I can't. The brake lines are awesome... It took over 2 weeks to get them though they were supposedly shipped the day after I ordered them. They were shipped from canada....... But my handlebar camera mount came from Australia in 4 days.

Then, they forgot the bike cover I also ordered... so who knows how long til that gets here, another 2 weeks?

Again, awesome looking brake lines, all the parts, brass washers, and a sticker for the tool box.... Just damn long time to get them... Horrible customer service, and they forgot the bike cover. Guess for the price savings, the 15 I saved is what it cost to pay for someone to have a clue.

    (Actually did this yesterday)
    Looked at the oil window
Looked in the tank to see how much petrol was in it. Even though I knew there were 4.5 gallons in it. Old habits die hard.
    Turned the key.
    Hit the starter button.
    Went for a ride.
Enjoyed the results of all my work over the last couple of snowy months.

Changed the spark plugs, oil, and installed a new choke cable. She fired right up and purred like a kitten! I still need to watch to see if I'm getting fuel in the oil though. Going to rebuild and sync the carbs soon. Hoping to get new tires and rear brakes this week sometime. It seems to run better on the reserve tank than on, would that be a petcock issue or vacuum?

If you had petrol in the crankcase, double check your air filter too.

The valve runs off vacuum in both ON and RES so I wouldn't think that would be a vacuum issue, but I'm new to this style of petcock so I'm not sure.

Did you check the valve for proper operation? Should only free-flow in PRI

Another thing it might be is the screen in the tank attached to the petcock being blocked.

I am assuming you have more than a half gallon of petrol in the tank.

Removed the rear wheel in preparation for some new components

The rear chain tension plate was broken when I bough the bike. The PO put a metal plate over it which worked just fine. New one is inbound.

New chain and sprockets inbound! I could just tell with the constant need for tightening and more than half a tooth exposure upon chain yank in the rear that it was ready to go. Better safe than sorry.

This axle nut has been pretty man handled -- fresh one on the way
