I had to do an emergency oil change to her tonight....

Another victim of SSFVS ,, (Sudden Stuck Float Valve Syndrome)
Ran fine for about 8 blocks or so, then sputtered and no power like you left the choke on or something.... Luckily it quit new a friends house....
So left it there, called the wife and went to work..

Showed up on the way home and ..yes I had more "oil" than I started with..

Pulled the carbs, cleaned them up, re-installed ..ate, changed the oil...
Seemed OK afterwards, carbs filled without any leaking ( had my hand in through the airbox feeling for overflow...) I guess tomorrow will tell...

And after I treated her to new shoes too..... tsk..tsk....
I did tag a big pothole yesterday... maybe jarred something????

Finally finished going back to my factory setup. i went from stock to pods to stock. i threw those pods in the trash. they can make the trashcan run better than a bike.

A trip in the morning had me scrutinizing both my and my wife's bike. I printed out the T-CLOCKs (.pdf) sheets and went down the list. A few things needed attention, but all-in-all everything seemed pretty good. Should be a fun adventure.

I'm feeling a lot better so I decided to go take a good long look at the damage to my poor Seca. My 5 year old asked if my motorcycle was mad at me. I told her probably.
I looked up how much it's going to cost me to fix him. Thought about selling him back to my brother. Then decided I really don't want to give up on him. If I have to I'll buy one part at a time. If it takes me three years I'll have that bike back on the road. You can be sure I'll have a jacket on!

I finally finished the work on my 1100. It was a basket case when I picked it up back in January. It barely ran and the P/O used a rattle can to change the color. I still have a few small things to take care of but for the most part, it's road ready. I had to.....
    Rebuild the carbs and Sync
    Rebuild both master cyl.
    Rebuild all calipers.
    Install new fuse panel.
    Adjust valves.
    Find and recover a backrest.
    Recover the seat
    New tires.
    New Brakes
    Clutch cable
    Paint
and clean polish all the aluminum
I'm pretty happy the way it turned out..It was all worth every minute/hour I spent getting it together.
I hope the link to the pics works.

Glad to hear you have not given up and are doing ok.

Make a list of what it needs and report back to us. There are some incredible people on this board with oodles of extra parts lying around

I took the windhshield off it is too hot to have it on. Wow I forgot how much wind that it blocks hehe.. It only took about 3 min to take it off and leave the mounts. I need to either practice or find a no tools way to pop it on and off and I know without it next time it rains I am going to be soaked. I love the feeling of the wind rushing over me tho instead of going around.

    >never thought id own THREE of these!

Hey LtDave, nice to see you again! I didn't know you had an 83 900RK. I just got one a month ago or so. Check it out in my gallery. I never thought I'd own ONE of those.

    >never thought id own THREE of these!

Wonder if I'll ever give up enough of these to own only THREE of these! heehee

I took my spare set of the square handle bar risers and stripped the clear coat. Then wet sanded the grey dull corrosion off. Got them over to the buffer and let them have it. They both shine like chrome so I swapped them out on my #1 1100 and i dug through my parts boxes and found two of the black angle plugs to put in there. She looks even better now. Next on the list is to swap out the oil pan with one that has a good drain plug.
    Pictures to come soon.

New o-ring for the petcock selector lever. Five new valve shims installed. New valve cover gasket. Three stripped valve cover bolt holes! :x Three Heli-coils installed in the stripped holes. Valve cover back on and tightened to spec. :D New float valves and seats installed in the carbs. Carbs re-installed. Rode the bike and had to back the idle screw off. This actually took me several days.

I installed the 2 valve shims I was waiting for from Len. Thanks!! super fast shipping BTW. Re-synced the carbs. Adjusted the rear brake. Pedal seemed a bit low. Went for an exhilarating ride and smiled the whole time. Came back and put a nice coat of wax on the new paint.

Took about a 250 mile round-trip ride from Colorado Springs up to Breckenridge and back (24 and 9 on the way up), (9, 285, 470, 85, and 70 on the way back).

Also checked my gas mileage for one leg, from Woodland Park to Breckenridge (about 90 miles). That's mostly between 7000 and 10000 feet elevation, lots of up and down, and averaging about 60 mph, and I got 43.7mpg. I'm pretty happy with that.
