what story do my spark plugs tell you???

    Sushi, just a bit of correction. You don't need to run at "high speed". You can run at any speed it doesn't matter. The important thing is the RPM and throttle position. For example, if you can find a decent hill you can check for WOT (Wide Open Throttle) in first or second gear.

    As was said earlier the plug chop only shows you what's happening in the cylinder when you hit the kill switch.
    So depending on what rpm you are tuning for dictates when you hit the kill switch.

    hi guys i have a 1982 maxim xj650 number 1 cylinder plugs is a dark brown real dark almost black looks way to rich looking plugs 2 thru 4 are a cocoa color but only on about have the plug insulator tip any ideas what the problem could be on number 1 plug i think 2 thru 4 are running properly

    XJMAN, (welcome) try turning the Pilot screw in 1/8 th turn, on just that carb, then drive easy for 2 miles, then re-check the plug.
    Tweak it a few times. Post your results.
