I knew I was getting netted, but couldn't stop myself! Probably the same way a big ol' bass feels as he's going for the hula-popper and his fish friends are telling him, "NO....don't do it!"...too late! Ha ha.

Besides, it was more of a frustration with my Maxim giving me troubles than "sticking up" for my HD. Right now I am a tad frustrated with my XJ's taunting me with one issue after another. Guess that's what happens when a bike is 26 years old and spent a good share of it's life neglected. I'll have to get on my "old" computer (in my son's room) and post up some before and after shots. Maybe that'll make me feel better and keep me motivated to push through and finish this puppy up!

Whatever I get, I'll be keeping the XJ. The few $ I could get on resale/trade in arent worth me parting with her.
Have been looking to add a 250-500cc dual purpose. But I'd really like to pickup a cruiser in the 850-1200cc range. Alas, I'll be needing to pickup a new car sooner than later, so that will probably take precedence.

I'm happy with the styling and ability of the 750 Maxim.

If I had to upgrade ... I'd go with a Bigger Yamaha. Something in large Sport cruiser; please. Not on of those V-Twins under the Star Banner.

2002-2007 Yamaha Warrior. 1700cc's V twin Fuel injected, belt drive, whats not to love. Makes about 80 hp and 100 lb/ft torque stock. Runs mid 12's, but bolt one gets it into 11's. 135 mph top end. cruzerjd

Me oh-so happy with my old 650J. My wife made the comment after seeing a full-boat Venture Royale, "now THAT bike, I'd get on and ride with you."

Keepin' the Maxim...may she run strong for many, many moons.

After my 85 XJ700 sells, my next bike is going to be a 1999 - 2003 Honda CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird.

I don't think there's an in-between. I've looked around though and it seems that used FJR's can be had for around $4000, which is almost in my theoretical price range. Maybe in a few more years. :)

I've had a Hayabusa for over a year and a half. Great bike.

I've only been riding the maxim for a few weeks. It's just a differnet ride. Brings me back o my first bike, 81 Honda CB650C.

Between the Honda and the Hayabusa, I rode a 89 Suzuki gs500 for almost 8 years.

Not sure where I'll go next.

Re: What would you upgrade to from the XJ, if you decided to

Funny, I was just looking at some of the pictures from the Tokyo Motor Show. If I was looking to buy a new bike, I think I'd have to wait for the new CB1100...

Unless Yamaha decides to come back with an updated Max, that is. The current XJ (the 1300, I think?) just looks too "sportbike" for my taste (even if it was available in the US). Now if they put that engine on a cruiser frame... mmm....

Yama's "Sakura" concept is kind of growing on me, too, although it's nowhere near production.

Edit: I forgot to mention... If I had to buy a V-twin, I've been seriously digging the '08 Dyna Fat Bob. Not that I could afford the scheduled maintenance... ($500+ every 2-5000 miles? Come on...)

Don´t know if you poor americans :) have it but my dream bike atm. is a Honda X4 (almost looks like a beefed up Maxim with those mufflers, right)?

IRL I´m planning on fitting the XJ900F engine in the Maxim 700 chassis; 98Hp and massive torque from 3000 rpms in all 5 gears 8)

I love that look, too, but the fact that it's an automatic kind of makes me wary...

The cruiser sleds look sweet. The Warrior, Boulevard, VTX, several of the Victories. I'd even take a V-Star.
Just to be different, a hydrostatic diesel would be interesting, though not efficient for my short ride to work. Build a bagger for those longer rides.

The MT-01 I tested was pretty awesome... I liked it more than the VMAX (hands down)

I would like a second bike - dual purpose or tourer... not sure which is higher on the list. At the moment I wouldn't give up the CBR... and I'd love to get another maxim.
