where are the horns mounted on 750 seca full fairing

Please help me. I bought a fairing off of ebay and just about have everything figured out - except where the horns are mounted. If anyone has the full fairing can you please tell me where the horns are mounted? Pics would be even better.

Oh man, did you buy that red fairing? I saw that, and it was awesome.

 

I bought this fairing about four months ago. I did see a red fairing on ebay recently but I think it's still there.

 

This is about the third thread I have started on this issue and no answers. This is quite a mystery.

I bought the touring, frame mount fairing from a member, didn't get the factory mounts, made my own. I had to remove the horns for clearance.
I don't know where they are supposed to go to look "factory", but there's plenty of room to put them anywhere you want.

I bought air horns for my 750.

 

I'm with TIMEtoRIDE, mount them wherever you feel like. Lots of room inside those fairings.

 

Well ... I also have the frame mounted fairing. I also had to make my own mounts but I am puzzled as I look at the holes in the fairing and I do not see any place for the horns to mount. If I take your advice and mount them where ever I can find room, then I would have to add holes to the fairing. It's not so much that I have and aversion to drilling new holes, it's more like I wanted to solve this riddle and there must be some perfectly logical explanation. It seems like it would be a simple matter if someone has an xj with a factory mounted fairing to take a look at where the horns are mounted.

But I need to keep making progress so I guess I will take your advice and mount them in some inconspicuous place. I have picked out the room at the end of the glove compartment areas about midway between the fog light and the headlight. It looks like I will have clearance for the head of the bolts on the inside of the fairing.

I have also accumulated the oem luggage that I am in the process of moutning up. It's funny, whenever I have come across these pieces on ebay, they never have the mounting brackets and hardware. Why is that? I think there must be speculators that are stock piling xj fairing and luggage mounting hardware and just waiting until the market indicators are right to release them into the market.

The thing is- - nobody is going to walk up to you and say " hey !! your horns aren't mounted in the right spot!!"
And I am still looking for the plastic brackets for the luggage rack.
Anyone have a lead on that??

I am in the process of making brackets for my luggage. I have both side pieces and the tail. I am using some light guage steel angle pieces that I cut off of an old cabinet and then I will construct the rest around those. My plan is to make frames for the side luggage and then attach some light guage plate to mount the luggage to. By only using material where it is necessary for mounting I think I can keep the weight down to a reasonable amount. Then I will make a top plate that spans the two side mounts in order to mount the tail piece. I do have the mounting instructions for the luggage. Do you need copies? It at least gives you an idea to work from. Let me know.

 

I am a little confused, my Seca horns are in the headlight, with or withhout the factory fairing I have. Are you hooking up auxiliary horns to supplement the existing horns or does the aftermarket fairing replace the headlight too?

 

I was just thinking this ... the horns on my seca (no fairing, stock) are inside the headlight housing/bucket/assembly, at the bottom. Stick em there if you've got that box on the bike. It's cramped in there but my stockers worked fine.

 

Ok ... now I'm confused. My stock Seca without the fairing had the horns mounted in the aux light box not in the headlight bucket. It is NOT an aftermarket fairing. It is the OEM FULL fairing - NOT the sport fairing. You could get two stock fairings for this bike. If you get the full fairing the aux light has to come out of the box in order to fit in the fairing - hence the problem.

 

I see, sorry not to be of help. It seems that you would want the horns to be directed forward somewhere, I looked at the XJCDs breifly but didn't see anything and find no reference in either the Yamaha Manual or Haynes, so I guess it's still as you originally asked, for someone with the full fairing to chime in. It's very odd that your horns are mounted in the aux light box. Like others have said, the horns belong in the main headlight bucket. If you retain the main bucket when installing the fairing, then just put your horns in there.

The horns mount on the same bolts that hold the bucket to the metal ears.
