I have recently got an 82 xj550 maxim. I'm preparing to crack the carbs or "break the rack" and replace as much stuff with new stuff as possible. But I cannot find where to get new rubber seals for the throttle shaft and choke shaft and fule tube seals. If anyone knows where to get a set or what kind of rubber seal kit to bu . It would be appreciated guidance.

I replaced mine recently, bought them from eBay. See this link, o-rings can work but I think v rings are the best option and worth paying for.

also see my build video as that should help too.

Or click on the big "Everything XJ" icon in the top right corner of this page to find what you want. You need to do your own digging to get to the correct parts.

Do not buy carb parts on Ebay, unless it's just a spare rack or carb body.
@chacal stocks the proper rebud kits and loose parts for all XJ carbs. Most kits on E-bay are not actually correct.

Nah. Just start a conversation with Chacal and he'll give you a quote within a day or two, including the appropriate aftermarket optons.
The catalog is worth reading through though. Lots of extra information about OEM fitment and fault diagnosis.

Carb kits pretty much never include shaft seals.

Yamaha does not list them as a separate part for the XJ.

That said, Mikuni shaft seals, which is what you need for a 550, are available new from Yamaha. Part number 256-14997-00-00

Not to lay it on too heavy, but every Yamaha dealer I've ordered XJ parts from had to have them shipped in from Japan. Chacal has the parts in stock. 4 days at most from Chacal compared to a month from Yamaha.

Cannot say enough good things about xj4ever , his parts are spot on , some may wine about cost ...but my favorite adage "buy the best ...cry once" I'm lucky I have an old Yamaha dealer close by , they can order parts , but many times xj4ever has the parts in stock . I got my seals for the throttle shaft from him perfect fit.

Those seals worked perfectly for me, I doubt you will have any issue. Just make sure you put them in the right way around. Eg V faces outwards...
