    Anybody recognize this wire?
    It's in the headlight.
My note to myself says it goes to the LEFT (??) handlebar… It doesn't??
Does it go to the right and operate the aux light?
What color does Yamaha call it? Blue/yellow (white?) with Black/Yellow?

    Thanks
    ab

Thanks this answers the next question, that I wasn't going to ask.
Why won't it start when..kickstand down, in gear and clutch in?

The switch has been cut off of the wire (by the PO).
Did the OEM clutch Lever have a tab on it to operate this switch?
I still have the brake light switch from changing to a bar mounted master cylinder.
HHhMMm are they the same, normally open or closed?

    A couple more questions.
I can't find your wiring diagram on my XJCD?

Does anyone have a color chart for the wiring?
B/Y is pretty obvious BUT L/Y (LIGHT blue??)

    G/L ?
    L/W ?
    L ?
    G/H ?

    etc?

    Thanks for the help

Before I start, I'm going to say that you REALLY need to update your profile/signature with your bike's year and model. We really shouldn't have to dig through reference books and the forums to figure out what you have.

Now, your post says you have an '81 750. That rules out its being a Maxim, at least in the US. Your picture, however, looks like a Seca. Is this the case?

The Seca and Maxim wiring diagrams for that year appear to be similar; the Blue/Yellow (L/Y) wire goes to the sidestand relay switch. The Black/Yellow goes to the starting circuit cutoff relay.

Yes. The "button" doohickey (technical term, that) sticks out into the space normally taken up by the clutch lever. When you release the lever, it pushes the button in.

Proceeding on the premise that your bike is in fact a Seca, click "Technical publications", then under "XJ750 Seca", click "Service Supplement". Otherwise, as I'm sure you've noticed, it pulls up the base service manual for a 650G.

It'll be on the right side of the diagram.

    **EDIT**

Looking over the Seca diagram some more, I'm convinced something there isn't hooked up right. You've got your clutch switch hooked up to Br/W (Brown/White) and L/W (Blue/White) wires. From what I'm seeing, the Br/W goes to the flasher relay and the L/W goes to the taillights.

I figured how to update my avatar, still working on my sig and profile??
    It’s a SECA.

    TECHNICAL_PUBLICATIONS\XJ750_seca_suppliment.pdf
pg16 A. XJ750H Diagram I’m using XJCD V4.0 which is a little different than the one you posted, now that I know that L=blue Question answered. Clutch switch B/Y with L/Y

I found the color code on the diagram for a 550 but not on my V4.0 750???

    Now that I know that
    L=blue
H= not mentioned on the 550 maybe on 650, still looking?
Elec issues should move a little faster.

    Thanks for your help

Schmuck has this well in hand but I'm going to make a suggestion Albran.
Get a manual for your machine to get the correct schematic. The Haynes is inexpensive, typically under $20 and I know it has the schematic you need. I will back up all of Schmuck's input so far.
    Good luck to you Albran!

When you can snatch the clutch switch from my hand, Grasshopper, then it will be time for you to leave. :p

On the left, click on "My Account". From there, click "My Profile Information". You can find the Signature block there.

Actually, I'm using v4 as well. In the .pdf file, you're looking under New Service/Electrical. Try expanding "Parts Illustrations". You'll see "Wiring Diagram" at the bottom.

H is a reference to the model year. Your bike would actually be designated RH -- R indicating a Seca, and H for a 1981.

    Thanks for the help.
    Profile updated.

Just got back from my FIRST ride longer than down the block and back.
Went 10 miles everything elec works except the clutch switch and horns.

Well they kind of work they have the worst case of laryngitis I've ever heard.
    Are they rebuildable?
I've cleaned all connections (now they squawk) and tested them straight to 12V.

    Thanks again

Again, I don't think those clutch switch wires are connected to the right wires. You may want to see if the same colored wires are floating around loose inside the headlight bucket and move them over.

    As for the horns...

Not a clue, I'm afraid. There are scads of posts on here about replacing the stock horns. Do a forums search and see if anything suits you.

    Thanks schmuckaholic

for the hint about the complete wiring diagram.
What a strange place to put it!

I'm going to replace the headlight with a round one, so I'll be moving the horns.
Just didn't won't to start the mods/upgrades untill everthing is in top shape.
