Hi, I've bought an XJ700 from a friend which has stood in his garage for 14 years, after cleaning the very rusty fuel tank and the carb's it runs, however the second cylinder from the near side cannot be getting enough fuel as the exhaust is cooler than the rest, spark is fine. Could it be that the internal diameter of the pipe I fitted as a replacement vacuum is to large? Not sure which model the bike is as was a Canadian import, VIN JYA1NJ00XGA000261 any help would be much appreciated as don't want to spent a wedge to find that the carb refurb kit I buy isn't the right one. Thank you.
Just found a most informative thread which tells me that the bike is an xj700s maxim. Brilliant, thank you to whoever spent the time to research and write up that thread.

could be your carbs are not clean enoufg, or not calibrated/synced and mixture tuned.
bad spark plug , swap them see if the problem follows the plug
could be spark plug cap swap them see if the problem follows
have you checked adjusted the valve shims?
compressiontest to see if all cylinders are up to spec?

Hi, Thanks for your assistance, there is a good spark so have removed the carbs once again to give them a thorough clean, one main jet broke as I removed it, will also flush out and clean the inside of the tank, and this time I'll seal it, looking forward to the entertainment of refitting the carbs!

if the tank is not perforated with rust I wouldn't do anything more than flushing it.
Seen too many of those sealing kits separate from the shell and make a horrible mess.
Put a fuel filter between the petcock and the carbs.

Hi, The bike had stood for 14 years in my mates garage, paint work and chrome still great, fuel tank rusted to @@@@ inside, cleaned it following advice from youtube, it did a good job, but I didn't seal it afterwards, hence the rusty fuel problem returning, intend sealing it with Petseal.
