I have an 83 xj550, the bike was running great, all carbs cleaned and syncd, new plugs, charged battary everything went over. Then all of the sudden it starts jerking and dying and restarting again. I made it home but now it's turning over and nothing, even with starter fluid. I tried jumping it with a car to see if it was the battary and still nothing. I have a direct line of gas going to the carbs with the vac line plugged so I know it's getting gas. What's wrong

    How were the carbs cleaned?
    Were they fully disassembled?
    Was the petcock rebuilt?
Is the petcock vacuum line new, and is it actual vacuum line?
Is the inside of the fuel tank rusty?
Did you place a fuel filter inline between the petcock and the carbs?
Were the valve clearances checked, and adjusted as needed?
Have you pulled one spark plug (and only one at a time), laid it against the head, and checked for spark?

Carbs were completely promenade down, clearances checked and synced. Petcock has been rebuilt, new vac line, no rust in the tank, brand new fuel filter. New plugs but haven't put them to the head and tested. Will let you know what happens.EDIT I tried the head test and yup no spark. What would make it do that all of the sudden?

start by testing you ignition circuits
ohm out ignition coils primary and secondary, sparkplug caps and pickup coils

unplug your sidestand safety relay and the black/white wire on the tci .sidestand could be killing your spark.

glass fuses still ignition fuse could be intermitent , run/kill switch may need to be cleaned.

you will find the specs for ignition systen in this thread
