The wait is over. The pictures are in and two 2008 calendars have been made.

This was our first crack at it and it was somewhat late in the season to get this going. Many lessons have been learned. So, next year’s calendar(s) will be a bit more organized and hopefully even better! I used various factors to decide on the final pictures. Here are some of those factors:

    1. Number of votes for the picture
    2. Picture quality
    3. Picture file size
    4. Is the picture a good fit
    5. Uniqueness of the picture

Lets hear some of your feedback so we can improve the process for the next year.

Thank you for participating and congratulations to all 2008 XJBikes Calendar finalists! I will create a special Gallery for the pictures that were used for 2008 Calendar.

You can get your calendar through these links:

Well, so much for the rat bike look. ;) I'm disappointed and relieved at the same time.

At least next time I'll have a better camera to try and do this with.

Thanks Chacal, I appreciate it... Next year I'll have to submit a couple days earlier... with some better pics. I can see the competition will only get better.

The calander is top notch, and true to my word I ordered one tonight.

I'll be putting it up in my cubicle when I get it. :D

Are the pics on the front of the calander the ones that made the cut?

The calendar is a single-page poster measuring 11x17. What you see is what you get.

It looks to me like there are 2 versions available, the 11x17 poster print and the normal multi-page calendar. The traditional calendar has each month's bike shown on the front; you can view the calendar pages on the cafepress.com site.

I got mine after only a week... And I'm on the otherside of the planet...

I like it when a company under promises and over delivers :)

    USPS.

And it usually takes that 11 days... I order stuff from cafepress on a monthly basis.

I have a feeling I just waisted my money.

Many places quote shipping times based on the carriers quoted delivery times, which:

    a) except for "guaranteed" services, like UPS/FedEx Next Day Air or 2-day Air, or Postal Service Express Mail, etc.---delivery times can vary quite a bit. For example, US Postal Service "Priority Mail" service is not a guaranteed service, and delivery times can be as quick as 2 days to a large city, or up to 5-7 days to rural areas within the USA, and obviously longer (sometimes much longer) outside the country.

    b) quoted delivery times are almost always in "carrier days" rather than in calender days.....meaning that weekends and holidays don't count in their quoted delivery times. Thus in the example above, 11 "carrrier days" is two full calender weeks plus one day-----which, throw in a US holiday that we just had, and now you're at 16 calender days......

    c) add to the above is the timing of when you placed your order. If you ordered from a merchant on, let's say, a Friday afternoon---well, that order may not get processed by them and into the carrier "delivery stream" until the following Monday....thus 3 calender days have already elapsed even BEFORE it gets into that whole "11 transit days which really means up to 15 calender days" thing..........thus equaling 18 calender days AS A NORMAL DELIVERY SCHEDULE........

The situation with Alive, who is over in New Zealand, is typical: overseas shipments, no matter what delivery service level is selected, goes via air, and thus leaves (for example) the US postal system within a day or two, then takes 1 day to get overseas to New Z, and then however long it takes to get thru NZ's delivery system. Non-priority delivery service levels for overseas shipments wait in a queue for available air cargo transport space IF higher-level classes of mail have already filled up the belly of a plane; otherwise, they travel just as quickly as a priority mail package.

During off-peak mailing times....and right after the holidays is certainly one of them....lower classes of mail delivery service tend to travel just as quickly as the higher levels of service. It's only during normal-or-above mail system volumes that the lower level mailing service choices get delivered more slowly, as it is not uncommon that during a "normal" mail volume period, that all available plane bellies are full, and the lower level service packages just sit in a warehouse somewhere until a lower amount of high-level service volume occurs (or a long enough waiting period has elapsed)----and only then do they get on with their travels.

That's why "standard" mail service levels can have such widely variable delivery schedules: they travel only on a space-available basis. Think of lower class mail service as being akin to a human travelling on a "stand-by" basis on an airline: sometimes you'll get lucky and get an immediate flight; most times you'll be looking at an extended stayover (after all, to an airline, a human passenger is just another form of cargo!).

Let me just say that I know absolutely nothing about, nor am I here to defend or chastise Cafe Express (I don't even know who they are!), but just wanted to outline the behind-the-scenes meaning of some merchants advertised statements, which can be quite ambiguous or, even worse, sometimes intentionally mis-leading------since the merchant wants to "promise" the quickest possible delivery times to the customer, yet, if "delays" occur, they can fall back on the (very real and true) explanations above to "pass the blame" onto the carriers for the delay, and the blame for the "mis-understanding" onto the customer.

    Yikes!
Someone is in the biz, hah. Thanks for the insider info.

I got the shirt and calendar today. And, as per usual they were EXTREMELY professionally packaged (calendar was on a cardboard backing and shrinkwrapped, and the t-shirt was folded, banded, and individually packaged, all before being placed in a Labelled box... Intense).

Anyway, I'll be sure to hang the calendar in the cubicle (though I kind of regret not getting the single page callendar... would be a better fit).

I forgot about the US holiday on Monday, which is kind of dumb considering I work for Sprint and told about 30 people over the weekend that they would have to wait for UPS, lol...

CafePress usually ships a lot faster, otherwise I wouldn't have questioned the 3 week delivery. I have ordered 4 custom shirts at a time from all different "stores" (within cafepress) and recieved them in under 2 weeks in the past... in december actually. That's why I was worried.

Ease, it's good to hear that it all worked out.

Doh, the order notifications were going to my SPAM folder. I still have to order my calendar. How did the pictures turn out? Some of the originals had low resolution.

... October could be a little clearer too but it's a hillarious pic so I'm all for it!.

I'm wearing my new t-shirt and hat right now. The calendar is in front of me too. May is an awesome month! LOL. My order took exactly one month to show up. Not unusual for shipping to Canada, but I've had faster. The Gov't took a cut for GST, PST and a handling fee. $10.24!
Nice products, well packaged and I'm proud to wear them!

One suggestion for next year's calendar. It would be nice to list the model of the bikes in the pictures and maybe the owner's name.

... I work in a call center and we recently changed clients... so the cleaning people thought it would be a great idea to steal my XJ bikes calendar and throw it in the trash...

    Buggers.

Just figured I'd vent a little.

The pictures in the last calendar weren't all that high quality, so I can't see why not... Of course I have nothing to do with the calendar so I guess someone else will answer.

All I know is I'm getting some good ones done for this calendar.

I think I'll get some shots of mine with a nicer back ground and send them in, everyone seems to like the style of it so far. My wifey is a photo grad I'll try to get her to do something cool like paint it flat black did with the year and model
