I hope this isn't too close to the line, but instead of the little "man in the box" to do the wrenching, how about that screamin' two dollar hooker?

Re: XJ PARTS FOR SALE---FOR ALL MAXIM, SECA, AND TURBO MODEL

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Chacal!!! I ordered a new petcock for my 83 XJ 750 from Chacal last week, it arrived super fast within a couple days of my order, and was just as described. I just installed it on my bike today and it fit perfect and has my bike up and running again without gasoline misting all over my leg when I ride!! I highly recommend Chacal for any of your XJ parts needs. He replied to e-mails and posts in the forum within minutes, and shipped my part out within hours of my order. Truly a great guy to do business with, keep it up! Chacal is my new go to guy for XJ parts! THANKS AGAIN!

Len got my YICS tool yesterday - first time it took 4 days to get anything from you - oh well. Going to use it tonight - maybe I get this thing tuned....

More parts to follow for sure.

Chacal, I got my parts this morning (that's 2 days!), just in time to tear into the carbs.

Thanks again! Now I have something to keep me occupied for the rest of the day :)

My parts ward off boredom and idleness, which are well known to be the work of the devil.

So bless you, stereomind, now go forth, be fruitful and synchronize.

    Len comes through again!

One of my parts was backordered, so Len flew to Tokyo and took the Yamaha Vice-President of Parts (Dinosaur Division) out to dinner, fed him full of Sake&Tonics and managed to get my part even though there are apparently fewer than 4 available in the whole world!

And then he Express Mailed it to me (at no small expense, I might add)!

Wow, thanks a bunch, Len! Tell Hiromi "Domo arigato", too!

P.S. Extra special no B.S. thanks for the Express Mail, Len...

Floogle, you are so very welcome, and actually I'm a bit embarrased about the whole situation, it took far too long to obtain that one silly little seal. I appreciate your patience.

And I don't think it was the sake and tonic, but rather the repeated 2x4 head smashes that convinced him to cough up those small round rubber seals. Tough love for parts people works wonders!

Now if I can get Interpol to stop looking for me.....

Thanks Len! Got the parts fast and they look good, now only if I can install correctly this time (there's not much information in my manual on it).

Re: XJ PARTS FOR SALE---FOR ALL MAXIM, SECA, AND TURBO MODEL

Hello, I'm new here so please bear with me. Spent all this week reading this forum. Excellent info here. Just registered!

I need info before I order parts. I am working on carbs (setting 8 years on bike)

The bike, 82 XJ750J Maxim. Bike has K&N air filter and 4 into 1 exhaust.

Is it required to rejet with larger jets just because of this exhaust?

These carbs have factory jets, 2 of which are broken on top.

This is my first attempt to work on my own bike.

Anyway as soon as i get this info I can order jets i need.

Thanks in advance for all the excellent content on this forum.

    Rick

    Greetings, Rick

and welcome. I'm pretty new here myself, but I can tell you this is a great group of guys (and gals?). Anyway, after sitting that long, you'll need more than jets to rebuild the carbs. Chacal has all or almost all the parts you need to do the job. His prices are resonable to great, his service and advice are awesome. Don't waste your time trying to piecemeal the project. Get all the gaskets and o-rings to do it right the first time and clean, clean, clean.
I'm looking forward to the jetting answer myself - my only mod on the 550 is a 4-1 for which I never rejetted. To help your search on the forums for advice on jetting with K&N's, I believe here thay are mostly called 'pods' and seem to be the source of lots of trouble!
Best wishes for you on your rebuild and keep us all posted.

Hi Ricklees, yes, youwill definitely need to re-jet for the combo that you are running. It's not so much the exhaust changes, but the intake changes ALONG WITH the intake changes (K&N filter) that increase the airflow through the engine, thus requiring more fuel to go along with that extra air (and thus a need for bigger jets). Be aware, it's as much an "art (that means "trial and eror") as it is a science. And as saltracer says, just go ahead and plan on rebuilding the carbs completely, they are toast internally (dirty) if they have been sitting that long, and perhaps they have already been re-jetted by the prvious owner. Send me a private message (PM) and I'll send you a long list of some of the parts you'll be needing.

In the meantime, here's some info on what re-jetting involves:

WHAT ABOUT RE-JETTING FOR PODS, ETC?:

It's a question we get asked often and unfortunately, one that we cannot answer honestly about your specific bike besides with "it depends".

Which is a nice way of saying "you're about to enter the seventh circle of hell......."!

Carb jet tuning required by aftermarket modifications is somewhat of a black art, part science, part skill, part luck. It depends on the current state of tune of your engine, your altitude, the mix of aftermarket parts on your bike, etc........a lot of variables.

The best advice we can offer is: Just Say No. Don't do it! Leave everything stock!

But, since most people---with good reason, I might add---don't always listen to our well-intentioned advice, then the next best recommendation we can offer is: "if you want more power get a bigger bike!".

And since that doesn't cut it with many owners, either, for the remaining stalwarts out there who insist on "experimenting" with aftermarket intake and exhaust systems, here's the best information that we've come across to give you some GUIDANCE, which you should take as just that, and not as ANSWERS, because it isn't!

MAIN FUEL JET SIZE CHANGES NEEDED PER TYPICAL MODIFICATION:

    Typical Exhaust Changes:

+2 main fuel jet size for custom 4-into-2 exhaust

    or

+4 main fuel jet sizes for 4-into-1 exhaust

    or

+4 main jet sizes for no muffler (open headers)

    Typical Intake Changes:

+2 main fuel jet sizes for single K&N filter (inside a stock airbox)

    or

+2 main fuel jet size for drilling holes in the airbox with stock filter

    or

+4 main fuel jet sizes for individual pod filters (no airbox)

    Additional changes:

    - Add up all the main fuel jet size increases and subtract 2 sizes.

    - Decrease main fuel jet size by 2 sizes per every 2000' above sea level.

    - Under a mis-match condition, such as when using pod filters with a 100% stock exhaust, or 4-into-1 header with stock filter and air box, then subtract 2 main fuel jet sizes.

PILOT FUEL JET SIZES CHANGES NEEDED PER TYPICAL MODIFICATION:

Pilot fuel jet size changes are related only to the change in main fuel jet sizes according to the main fuel jet size formula described above. Note that this pilot fuel jet rule is for the main fuel jet size change BEFORE any main fuel jet altitude compensation is factored in:

Increase the pilot fuel jet size +1 for every +3 main fuel jet size increases.

    Additional changes:

    - Decrease pilot fuel jet size by 1 for every 6000' above sea level.

    PRECAUTIONS:

    - Make sure your carbs are in perfect working order before making jet changes....meaning fully cleaned internally and rebuilt, operating properly in their stock configuration, proper sized air jets and needles, etc.

    - Check plug color often and adjust as needed, 2 main fuel jet sizes at a time and 1 pilot fuel jet size at a time. Bright white plug insulators are a sign of an overly lean fuel mixture condition and WILL cause damage to your engine over time, up to and including engine seizure!

    - Synch the carbs after each jet change.

    - Make sure the floats are set correctly

    - Seriously consider purchasing a Colortune Plug Tuning kit.

    - You may find it necessary to make changes to the size or shimming of the main jet needle. There are no guidelines on what or how to do these changes, this is true trial-and-error tuning!

    EXAMPLE:

A 1982 XJ750RJ Seca using an aftermarket Supertrapp 4-into-1 exhaust and a single K&N air filter in the stock, unmodified airbox. Bike is primarily operated at an altitude of 2600 feet above sea level.

    XJ750 Seca Stock Carb Settings:

    #120 Main Fuel Jet
    #40 Pilot Fuel Jet
    Y-13 Needle

    MAIN FUEL JET SIZE CALCULATIONS:

    Changes made:

    Exhaust:
4 into 1 with Supertrapp = +4 Sizes Main Fuel Jet

    Intake:
K&N Pod Filters = +4 sizes Main Fuel Jet
    ----------------------------
Equals: +8 main fuel jet sizes above baseline
Subtract: -2 main fuel jet size per formula above
    ----------------------------
Equals: +6 main fuel jet sizes due to modifications, thus:

Stock main fuel jet size is: #120
    + 6 additional sizes
    = a #126 main fuel jet size
    ---------------------------
Subtract: -2 main fuel jet sizes for Altitude of 2500' Average

    = #126 calculated from above
-2 jet sizes for altitude adjustment

    = a #124 main fuel jet size.

    PILOT FUEL JET SIZE CALCULATIONS:

The formula is: +1 pilot jet size increase for every +3 main jet sizes increased.

Stock pilot fuel jet size is: #40
+ 2 additional jet sizes (since we went up +6 main fuel jet sizes before the altitude compensation was factored in):

    = a #42 pilot fuel jet size.

Note that no altitude compensation is needed on the pilot fuel jet since our elevation is less than 6000' a-s-l.

    ------------------------------

    RESULT:

A #124 Main and #42 Pilot is A GOOD STARTING POINT.

    ******************************************************

For further insights and understanding, the Holy Grail (meaning: the whole miserable, un-varnished truth of what a real chore carb tuning is going to be, written by people who actually know what they're talking about, rather than by people who are trying to sell you something) can be found at:

    www.factorypro.com

and then click on the "Product Support/Technical Support" link at the top of the page, then on the "Motorcycle Tuning Tech" link, and then the "CV Carb Tuning" link........and then read, weep, study, and do....if you still dare to! As you will soon realize, it's takes quite a bit of effort to properly tune a carb to its optimal performance----another reason why we don't suggest using pods!

Hey Chacal, I emailed you last night about some parts that I need to order. I'm guessing that you've not gotten back to me because you're busy with all of the other orders that you recieved. The return email that I sent was from old-soldier@ and I could still use those parts if you have them. Thanks for your time.

Re: XJ PARTS FOR SALE---FOR ALL MAXIM, SECA, AND TURBO MODEL

    Hey Chacal,

I've heard quite a bit about you and i've only been on the forum for a few days! I purchased an 82 XJ650 RJ Seca which is by far the dirtiest machine I have ever touched. You can see my progress here:

    http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=12352.html

Anyways, I am looking for a fuel tank, battery side cover, speedometer, left handle bar choke assembly, and a set of tank and side cover emblems. Also if you have any tips and tricks to disassembling these bikes it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Michael Andrews

Just checked Chacal's latest price list that I have, and he doesn't have a tank or side cover emblems listed for a Seca. Maxim, yes, but not Seca. I also don't what (or if) he has for the side cover or speedo. The choke, on the other hand...

    ------------

    Choke/Starter/Enrichment Circuit Cables:

cac1) OEM and aftermarket CHOKE CABLE, brand new with coil-wound black-sheathed housings, inner nylon sleeve, and correct ends to correctly replace snapped, frayed, or noisy originals. NOTE: the overall length of aftermarket cables may differ by 1-2" (total overall length) from original, but this can easily be compensated for in the routing and final adjustment of the cable once installed.....this is why there are fewer aftermarket cables than original cables (cables that were very close in all other aspects, but within 2-3" of overall length, have been consolidated into one part number on aftermarket cables).

HCP2712 OEM original Choke Cable, for all XJ650 Seca and XJ750 Seca models.
    $ 15.00

Re: XJ PARTS FOR SALE---FOR ALL MAXIM, SECA, AND TURBO MODEL

Hey Michael, your bike looks GREAT! Hope those lines fit well, and let me know how they perform for you (please practice using them, so you don't shoot yourself over the handlebars in the first real panic stop you make!). Enjoy your ride and "be the bunny"......... :D

To everyone else.....Michael was kind enough to do the test fitting of the custom-fit stainless steel brake lines for me on the XJ1100 models, which are now available and listed in the PARTS FOR SALE section of the forums:

    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=1 ... tml#100908

Also special thanks to Gamuru, Robert, Aldo, Larry, Rpgoerlich, MiCarl, John L., Ryan, Steve M, Shawn, Chas, and all the many others who were instrumental in lending their bikes and their time in order to test-fit pattern braided stainless steel lines onto their original, stock bikes so that we can provide truly correct-fit, DOT street-legal replacement brake lines for everyone else.

I ordered some parts from my local dealer on the 12th, and I'm expecting to receive them some time late next week. Chacal you ROCK!!!! I will be going through you from hear on out for all of my XJ needs. Great prices, personal service, and you even double checked my parts to ensure that I got exactly what I needed.
    Thanks again!!

I got my fork seals about a week ago, they came so fast, I haven't had time to schedule putting them on yet. Oh well, maybe this weekend.
