    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Hey Chacal... Thanks for your accuracy and promptness on the first order ... i got the old max running kinda rough, but at least is running. I have just sent you another order for more carb parts and some electrical stuff. I am hoping installing new rather than "cleaned" main idle jets and new needle valves will allow it to idle smoother. I know there will be more things to work on before this bike is "proper" but so far i have found all the parts i needed for them (so far stress inducing, pretentious, nagging ... etc) "hitachi" carbs on your list and thats real comforting. Thanks again.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Hey Chacal, will this set "HCP535SET4 OEM Yamaha rubber intake Manifold Boots" work on my bike? The description lacks the specific application/destination description but' it matches the numbers "HCP535xxx" which leads me to believe that they may work on my bike. Mine are cracked. Also when replacing those manifolds, do people replace the associated hardware also (nipple plugs, bolts, gaskets ... etc), or just the rubber sleeves?

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Hey TTF, thanks for the question and my apologis for the delay in responding. Yes, I had a goof in the above part numbers, and have corrected it. For your bike you need part number HCP535SET4, which is going to get you 2 x HCP535LH (#1 & #2 cylinders) and 2xHCP536RH (#3 & #4 cylinders) intake manifolds. Yamaha recently discontinued the HCP535RH manifolds and have superceded them to the HCP536RH part numbers (and for the life of me I can't physically see any difference between the HCP535LH and the HCP536LH manifolds, either, but they carry different part numbers, so be it).

As far as the accessory pieces, I would absolutely replace the manifold Gaskets, and probably the intake manifold-to-head Bolts. AND MAKE SURE YOU USE ANTI-SIEZE ON THE BOLTS WHEN INSTALLING THEM!!!
They should be torqued to about 4-5 ft-lbs. when installing.

Your intake nipple rubber caps and their spring clips can be re-used if in good condition, as well as the cinch clamps that hold the manifolds to the carb throats.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Hey Chacal, got a puzzler for you. I've got a 82 750RJ that I'm rebuilding the brakes on. The caliper rebuild kit and new pistons are on hand but the kit does not include the slider pin boots and the factory schematic doesn't show them. I can't find those boots for love nor money. Any suggestions?

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Hi Robert....well, I've looked on the exploded diagram for the Seca brake calipers and see the slider Pin, but not the "boots" that would be used with it. I know that on the 750 Maxim calipers, the slider pins that are part of the large cast mounting bracket have accordian rubber boots that fit over the slider pin bores, and I wonder if they're the same or similar? Unfortunately I don't have one of those Seca calipers handy to go look at one up close and personal......

So to make a long answer short....no, I have no suggestions! If I had a a set of seca calipers to look at (photo would be fine) that showed me what size and style they are, I could dig through my treasure chest of parts and knowledge and see what is available or might work.........

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Ok Chacal, hit my gallery to see pictures. If you need additional reference, the illustration (figure 5.13, page 196) in the Haynes manual shows them. I also need to track down similar boots for my turbo front end. Those boots are visible on page 198, figure 5.14. I have one boot in decent shape and that is it. The rest are mush so making molds of them will be pretty hard. Hoping you have the answer for me bud.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

    Hey NickoMatic, mucho betterer!

Now can you tell me this: does the "bottom" of each boot have a metal ring molded into it? And if so, give me the OD and ID of that ring (approx.).

Also, are the boots on the left and right side of a single caliper the same? Or are there two different boots PER CALIPER?

And, what is the ID of the hole, in the boot, that the pin passes through? (or the OD of the pin would be just fine).

Finally, is the rubber part of the boot rather stiff, or kinda flimsy and very flexible?

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

    No

    Yes, the same boot.

I get 8.24 mm in an area that has no wear on the shaft!

    Completely flexible!

The drawing below is not to scale, hope it gives you a better idea of the part.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

    Okay, Nick, VERY thorough. Now......

If there is no embedded metal collar or ring in the base of the boot, how is the boot retained to the caliper....what holds it in place and/or keeps it from "collapsing" at the point where it meets the caliper?

That 3 mm lip pops into a machined slot on each side of the mounting bracket that the caliper floats on.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

So the boot fits onto the mounting bracket and not on the caliper itself?

    Hmmm, the plot thickens.........

P.S. boy I really like your drawing!

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Yes, the brake to fork mount is where the "boots" press fit into. The calipers hang off this mount via the "pin" in my first picture. Yamaha parts blow up shows the mounting bracket but does not assign a part number to it.

Thanks, I guess I didn't waste all those years in drafting classes after all!

I guess the answer here is to order up the P/N you shot me Chacal and see what I get for the money. I'll attempt to make it happen this weekend.
Nick, you in the same boat I'm in but you have boots at least. Dead ringers those parts are, except yours are in very nice shape. My pin is corroded rather badly (turned new stainless pins today at work, NICE!) but I'm working on the boot issues.

Hey Robert, you can do that, but I've already beat you to the draw! Bang-bang. I should have them in here by next week and I'll let you know what I find. Of course, you need those anyway for the 650T, but if you want to hold off on ordering the Seca pin....just to see if it comes with the boots....I gotch'ya covered!

I just wanted to leave a little feedback on the very fast and excellent service I got from Chacal's store. Quality parts and very good prices! I ordered an ignition lock and some carb rebuild parts.. He's got some of the real obscure stuff that you wouldnt think of too.. Like a drill bit to clean out the starter jet that I thought I ruined last year :) Thanks Len!!

In the process of cleaning the carbs I have found that I need the following parts:
    enrichment valve hex-topped brass body
    pilot screw flat washer (tiny)
    pilot screw rubber stopper
Here is a picture of what I need. Do you have any of these?

    Thanks,

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Okay, regarding the 750 Seca pin boots: we're out of luck. They originally were serviced as a separate part number...that took a full week to discover---but have long since been discontinued.

I found some similar pin boots that MIGHT work----but I doubt it. The boots used on 750 Max calipers are "similar", but they have a base diameter of almost 16mm (as opposed to the 14mm on the Seca calipers), and an overall heigth of 14mm (as opposed to 12mm on the Seca), and the bellows opening is 9.60mm in diameter (not sure what it was on the Seca).

The heigth and bellows opening differences probably aren't significant, but the base diameter may be a sticking point (figuratively and literally!).

If anyone wants to try one on their caliper, I'll send you a new one for $9.00 each (shipping included). If they don't work, just send it back and I'll refund your full amount. Or you can send me a caliper and I'll try it on....I do not have a Seca caliper here to experiment on!

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Well, new rotors are going to set you back a bit. You'll have to try to find some on eBay or this forum (used) to get a better price. On used ones, you have to find out what the min. allowed thickness is (should be in your factory service manual, or in a Clymer manual) and ask the sellers to mic them for you. ALSO, be sure to inquire as to whether there are any hairlines cracks around the mounting bolt holes or around the outside edges of the rotor....if so, they're about to be nice paperweights.....

well my rotors might be alright...I have to check them out. I think the caliper definitely needs to be rebuilt though. Also, it looks like I will need new plug boots too as mine are all dry rot and the rubber bits are cracked to hell.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

One thing on rotors.....there's no brake machinein the world that will turn them.....Yamaha rotors are made from a hardened steel and they will get chewed up by the cutting bits on a brake lathe.....go to an automotive machine shop and have them surfaced on a flywheel grinder.....they come back sweet and straight....just make sure that the min. allowable thickness is not breached!

I've got caliper and master cylinder rebuild kits whenever you're ready. please inquire.

I can hook you up on the caliper. I have contacted a company that makes bellows for machining equipment to see if they would perhaps take on a run of 100-200 of these things. I'll P.M. you with details. Nick, can you ship me your boot drawing? I can't pull it off the page here and I want to be able to furnish it to the prospective supplier. How many folks would need/want a set of boots should these folks be willing to pop them out?
