    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

well I got the parts yesterday. I noticed my plug caps were indeed the originals and were about 9-11k ohms. But all the rubber bits were dry-rot and falling apart. The new ones look much better on there and fit a lot tighter. The old ones had a little play on the top of the plugs.

Brake parts to be installed later...when I have time to disassemble the brake system.

and it fired up and idled MUCH smoother. Surprising. I guess since they are only half the resistance, the voltage doesn't drop as much...so it fires stronger...and doesn't leak out the dry-rot boots.

    I am happy.

    Great fast shipping too.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

ok brakes rebuilt today...had a heck of a time getting the fluid to pump down the line to the caliper, but I eventually got it to work by priming the master cylinder and "bleeding" the outlet, then connecting the brake line. After that everything went smoothly.

Thanks for the parts chacal. The brakes are like a completely different animal now and the pads don't drag on the disc anymore. Now I just need two new boots for the slide pin, because the ones on my caliper were sticky, gooey messes. I just greased the pin and re-installed after cleaning it, but I now have no dust booties on there. I hope Robert is successful in having them made.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

    Update:
Of three manufacturers quiried, one responded. Nick's assistance has been invaluable, the images he supplied have been the right thing at the right time (Nick, your boots are on me when and if we get them). The engineer at said supplier is reviewing the drawings and should have a quote for us some time this week. Hopes and prayers folks! I still would like a head count of who all is in need of this item. I've gotten three responses so far. These aren't quite the numbers I had expected. Keep in mind that there may well be a minimum run requirement and a hypothetical run of, say 1000 at a dollar a pop (which is a screamin deal per piece) nets a bill of $1000. Given the lack of NOS support, this may well be the singular source for this part (if we can get it). I'm hopeful there is a greater demand for these things than initial responses suggest.
Additionally, depending upon this manufacturers abilities, we could consider other soft parts no longer made, such as clutch lever boots, kickstand switch boots, etc... Let's hear from you, what do you need that isn't available anymore?

    ****EDIT*****
Mfr said they will have a quote some time next week...

I'm a definite for caliper slide pin boots if I wasn't one of the three.

I'd say make a separate post with a new title so people look at the thread.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Put me down for a set.

    - these will work on the 550 caliper? Same as a 650 left caliper and mirror of a 650 right caliprer I believe.

I'll have to look closer, but I'm sure I could also use a pair. I dont think there is any remains of the orginal boots on my installed caliper.

There might be...Mine had all the rubber melted and very sticky, causing the slide pin to not slide. Result...pads holding on the rotor tightly even with the lever not pulled. Constant braking. Might want to clean up your slide pin and the bores on the caliper to be sure.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Ordered several carb pieces on Monday and they were here in Ft. Worth on Thursday! I think the allen head screws for the float bowl drains are a fantastic idea.

My bike has been sitting for a while and two of the needles were stuck open and two were stuck closed. They only had 11000 miles on them and showed no wear but they felt like they were galling a bit even after cleaning them. I've read where others had similar problems. Chacal's needles are a different material than the seats, and they move smoothly like I would expect.

    Thanks for the good service,
    Mike

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

    Hey Chacal,

I got the parts in the mail this week (set of main jets and washers, Idle Mixture Screw o-ring and washer, idle mixture screw port rubber cap, starter enrichment circuit brass Plunger cap, Colortune Spark Plug Tool). Everything arrived as advertised and has been fitted to the carbs (except the colourtune).

Thanks for the great service and price!
Now if we could just get Canadian Customs on our side, it wouldn't take an extra week to get here.

Once I get the next order (Bowl Drain Screws) I will set the float heights, bench sync the carbs, put them back in the bike, properly sync the carbs and adjust the idle mixture.
I can hardly wait! I'll get this bike running just in time for winter. :(

    Thanks again.

Should be Hitachi HSC32's, look for an Hitachi logo stamped in the side of the carb body just above the float bowl.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

You should have Hitachi HSC32 carbs. Look at the carb "hats" (technically known as Diaphram Covers---the chrome things on the top of the carbs) and if they have a "sloped" rear edge (rather than completely rounded) then they're Hitachi's................

Beeker and Brew, thanks for the kind words, glad that things got there in one piece, and let me know if I can help again!

Beeker---you'll love the colortune plug, neatest little thing in the world. Be gentle with it. Now get yourself a Carbtune (synch sticks) and you'll be the envy of your entire community. Wealth and fame will soon follow. You'll cut a full second or two off your 0-60 time. I've had reports that a Carbtune owner's own personal "member" may even grow somewhat, without the use of those dangerous pills..........

Got my order VERY QUICKLY! Thanks sooooo much Chacal! I was worried this was going to be hard tracking down parts, you couldn't have made it easier.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHACAL TO ANYONE NEEDING PARTS!

P.S. Thanks also for labeling everything in separate baggies, that helps a ton!

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

It's my turn to give mad props to Chacal. We went back and forth several times in PM trying to diagnose the problem with my leaking petcock. Once that was done, I ordered a wave washer and O-ring for the selector lever, and the silicone grease. I also sanded down the back of the selector lever, as it seemed to have warped just a hair. (Apparently, they do that.) Everything is installed, and appears to be holding.

On a side note, I got the impression he was a bit dismayed at having to use what he referred to as "toilet chemicals" for our bikes (he gets his silicone grease from a plumbing supplier); I suggested he look at it a different way.

They're not "toilet chemicals"... we're giving our bikes a boob job.

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Hey Guys, thanks for the props, mad and otherwise!

Glad everything got there quickly, and solved some problems.

No dismay, I'm glad that there's products out there that work. And even though I refer to it as "plumber's grease", it actually has lots of uses, I just so happen to get it from a plumbing wholesaler because that's the cheapest place I could buy it. But it's used in food service equipment and industrial applications, too.

Heck, I even found a source for some nice little rubber idle mixture screw plugs to substitute for those horrible aluminum discs that come with the replacement carb rebuild kits (who wants to use those things since they're impossible to remove?). These rubber plugs are actually modified ballcock valve washers from---you guessed it---the plumbing supply wholesaler.

So whether it's the pet cocks, or the ball cocks, we can all be grateful that our friends in the plumbing business saw fit to insure that our bikes can still get 1st class boob jobs, even after all these saggy years!

BTW, did I mention that I now have the Dyna Coils in stock, $119.00/pair?

    Thanks again everyone, stay tuned........

Oh, final note: as schmuckaholic can testify, with PROPER and THOROUGH efforts in the rebuild process, the factory Yamaha petcocks can easily be rebuilt successfully. The trick is using the right techniques, and the right parts, and, of course, buying those parts from me..... :)

There ya' go! Someone who will have an EXCEPTIONALLY running bike.

    Why?

Because he's going to adjust his valves before/as part of his carb cleaning and tuning procedure.

    Just like the manual advises.

Report back what happens Jack, and thanks for the business!

    Re: MAXIM PARTS FOR SALE

Reporting back, bike is running much much better. Get out of the hole much smoother and faster. Carb synch was a pain since it was my first time, but I have no idea what I would have done without the colortune plug! I just turned the screws out til it was burning yellow, unless it was burning yellow, then put them in til I see blue and tweak til its right on the money! Re synch'd, and probably gonna re-synch and color tune again tomorrow to make sure everything is perfect, was getting kind of dark out!

    :D
I received my order today and am very pleased. I ordered on the 21st and received it on the 23rd. I wasn't expecting it until the 24th or possibly the Monday 26th or later. I am sure it didn't take to long because I am kind of close to where it was shipped from and paid the little extra for priority shipping. I recommend anyone needing parts to check here first. The prices are great. Before I found this thread I ordered a throttle cable from my local Yamaha dealer and it cost twice as much as it would from here and takes a lot longer to get. Before to long I plan to order some spare cables and any other thing I might need. I will be riding full time all year, so I can't wait until a cable breaks, then have to order one. Although if I had to order it, it shouldn't take long if ordering from XJ4Ever.

Hey Chacal, got my Order today. It came alot quicker than I expected. I took out all my valve shims, so once I do the calculations, I'll be getting back to you on the sizes I need to finish up my valve job.

    You Rock man!
