Repair guy tightened the valve cover bolts too much on 82 Maxim. When tried to remove them, the inside threaded female portion which is a part of the camshaft retainer broke. Need two camshaft retainers with threaded top portion to receive valve cover bolts. Believe these are the same for all Maxim models.

Got me parts.

Installed the pads. Much better. . Now for the valve adjustment and carb sync, gear oil change, shoes, etc.

Len worked with me for a few days quoting and requoting parts so I could get my list just right so I only ordered one time. I paid for the tracking insurance and expedited shipping and received my stuff in OH within 3 business days!!! And that was only because the USPS put my stuff on a truck servicing the wrong zip code and it went driving around Columbus for a day. I checked the parts and everything is perfect, well bagged and well tagged. VERY happy doing business with Len. HIGHLY recommend.

I've actually ordered from chacal probably a half a dozen times since I last posted on these threads, but I wanted to post again.

Chacal's service is excellent. I had a long parts list and even got a little sticker shock when getting the full list from chacal. I went looking for a better deal, and found a couple of parts elsewhere for "cheaper."

However, reading the reviews of those other sites, it was impossible to not be concerned with how long it would take, whether parts would be back ordered (and whether or not the site would give you any warning) and how absolutely poor their customer service can be.

Chacal always lets you know EXACTLY what parts are in stock, and ships them out IMMEDIATELY once you've paid. If any aren't, he'll let you know they are back ordered, and will let you know when they get in and that they've been shipped. In the end, I paid a little more for the parts, because I know I'll get them in a couple of days, and if there is any issue with my order, he'll make it right.

 

Excellent parts, great service, what more can I say. I will definitely be ordering from Chacal again. It's great to be able to get so many parts for my XJ from one source, having everything shipped together makes my life easier.

So I haven't posted before about parts orders, but on my third order from Len I thought I should give some credit. Everything has been right, fast, better than expected, and neatly presented.

To be honest, when I first started into this bike last year and found this site, I expected something a little less put together - like a fleabay dealer - but no. My chacal shopping is a professional experience every time. Of course I agree with Manbot - there is sticker shock, but that's my own fault for owning a classic 2 wheeler: "what, you have to buy new shims? and what do you mean my brake pads might be old? there's only 4000 miles on them!"
