Thanks Chacal, I received the parts today, on a Sunday, go figure. They shipped on the 21st of May to Edmonton AB, Canada. You'd told me 9-18 days, so that would be 7 business days (misleading as it somehow showed up on a Sunday). Parts were all proper and accounted for, and were packed really well. It seems there were no extra fee's crossing the border.

The service manual for the 550 is different from the often linked PDF at pdfcity(?).

Looking for both left and right engine side covers for 1983 to 1985 XJ900R K L F , in good to very good condition ( as in never been dropped) I am restoring an old XJ900 with a veiw to making it into a cafe racer style but need these 2 engine covers.
Does anyone have any they are willing to sell.

They have YICS and Yamaha reccesed into them in black and red.

 

XK900....are you speaking of the small round covers on the very front of the engine (the crankshaft end covers)? Also, those covers are pretty interchangable between different models, the XJ900RK models used a pretty specific set of covers merely due to their polished-and-black finish, others models used the same cover but without the black-rimmed outer edge..........how original are you looking for?

I am looking for original in this case as I really like the XJ900RK to XJ900RF engine covers especially when polished up.

I have an early '83 matching numbered engine and frame and am looking at biulding a racer/Cafe racer style XJ900 as they were raced out here succesfully in the early 1980's , in fact in 1983 they came 5th , 7th and 16th in the Castrol 6HR race , which at the time was the bigest production bike race n Australia.

I just wanted to let everybody know that I too am a VERY satisfied customer of Chacal. My order was handled VERY professionally, as I was guided on what would be needed for my carb re-build. (something that a newbie like myself needed and I wouldn't get anywhere else) The prices were very good and the shipping was FAST!.... Did I mention that the parts got into my hands fast?...

Beautiful bikes! Love that FJR1 in the red-white-blue paint nad striping scheme. You'd have thought that Yamaha would have sold that one int he USA but no, patriotic colors and all, you guys everywhere else got them..........

This winter I am going to need to replace 2nd gear in my 1982 Maxim 650. I figured beings I'm in there I would replace the other gears too. Any thoughts on this and what all is invloved on such a job? I figure I'm probably going to need a complete gasket kit as I am also relacing a lot of the engine covers for polished out ones and the valve gasket leaks slightly.
