xj wont go past 80k backfires around 4000 rpm ? any idea ?

    the bike has sat for a while and studdered and hesitated around 4000rpm specially when you pulled back the throttle and asked for much more gas.

    i thought it need a good rip on the highway maybe it might clean it out, then i barely made it back !

    kept back firing ??

    Sounds like another set of carbs in need of cleaning. The backfiring is probably because the mixture is way too lean - lean as in blocked passages in the carbs, rather than lean as in an adjusment issue.
