:D Hi there. Hope someone can help. Think I may have posted in the past but hed to reeboot and lost all my detailes. I came to own an XJ400 special (Grey Import) from a friend who needed space. She is a lovely old girl but needs some TLC. Not sure of year as I dont have any paperwork yet. Need to contact DVLA. My first question is regarding the exhaust. Do i have to replace the 4 into 1 underbody manifold with the same or is there a cheeper alternative and second, will it harm the engine to start it with the exhaust removed? Finaly, does anyone know of somewhere in the UK to obtain parts such as side panel, fuel cap and other bits and pieces. Sorry its a long one but I am determined to see this old girl running on the road again.
    Regards
    Stewart

Thought I better add that its a 4 cylinder engine apparently only sold as standard in Japan.

    Thanks

I had to find a complete exhaust system for my xj750, only options were ebay or aftermarket. I ended up finding the parts on ebay.

I've run a few different engines without exhaust, mainly to see if they fire up, and not for very long. The lack of back pressure on the engine will cause it to run slightly differently from what it should. I've heard of burning out exhaust valves, but can't give any info on that one.

Sorry can't help you on that one, never been over there, but good luck and good parts hunting.
